Objective support for any position is welcome but profanity does not make an argument more persuasive.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:52 amWhy should I care what Zips says?harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:43 amEvan White and J.P. Crawford (who is only 15 months older than White) should play important roles in the Mariners' future as they remain under team control for eight years (including three team options) and four years, respectively.
Steamer and ZiPS project White with 2021 WAR of 0.6 in 146 games and a negative 0.4 in 103 games while projecting Crawford with 2021 WAR of 2.5 in 150 games and 1.8 in 126 games.

Their projections mean nothing lol... it's not predictive of anything. Zips doesn't know fuck about 2021. They probably give all rookies who struggle their first a modest projection.
The M's do not anticipate White being a .718 OPS hitter... they wouldn't have paid him his contract if they saw him as such. If he continues to be that bad, we've got a problem but he's got the tools as a hitter and JP doesn't.
Defensive WAR at SS is also overrated as fuck and is the only reason JP's head is even above water. He can't hit and is a magnificent hole in our lineup. I don't anticipate White being so going forward.

Neither does focusing on the profanity absent the argument.harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:58 amObjective support for any position is welcome but profanity does not make an argument more persuasive.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:52 amWhy should I care what Zips says?harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:43 amEvan White and J.P. Zips is not a reliable tool for projections when it comes to young players.
Mike Trout put up a .672 OPS in 40 games his rookie season... tell me, do you think Zips predicted he'd hang a .963 OPS the next season? I think not.

We can all cheer for Evan White, J.P. Crawford, Dylan Moore and the rest of the Mariners going forward.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:00 amNeither does focusing on the profanity absent the argument.harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:58 amObjective support for any position is welcome but profanity does not make an argument more persuasive.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:52 am

I will not cheer for JP Crawford. The next FA class is filled with SS's who are far more talented than Crawford with a bat in their hands and we have a boat load of money to spend. I'm guessing Crawford will put up something around a .700 OPS and not play as good of defense as next year. I'm hoping it paves the way for a major signing at the position.harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:05 amWe can all cheer for Evan White, J.P. We have to root for Evan White... he's under contract for a while.
Dylan Moore has at least shown a major flash with the bat to indicate he's capable of being a very solid hitter in this league... and he's a quality defender. It's really no skin off this team's ass if he doesn't perform... they have nothing invested in him... they have plenty invested in Crawford.
And here's what I found as a prediction for Trout in 2012: .266/.324/.409, 9 HR, 38 RBI, 14 SB

You need an outfielder if Moore plays the infield, sign an outfielder

No you don't... he's slated to play 2B and the M's will fill an OF spot w. a random until Kelenic is ready.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:16 amYou need an outfielder if Moore plays the infield, sign an outfielder

Re: 2020-2021 Hot Stove Thread
Well certainly not now given the merry band of nobodies they look like they're going to run with in 2021... which again, goes back to my original point: "the M's will not contend for a playoff spot in 2021."Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:21 amand they are not trading for Lindor either, thought we were talking, what ifs
Why?
Because they roll with light-hitting, .680 OPS prospects like JP Crawford instead of spending big cash on superstars who compliment their real up-and-comers.
Bet Padres fans didn't think they'd sign Manny Machado... oh right, they had a plan a vision for him on their squad. Seems to be workin' out.
This 2021 roster is sort of a joke to me... how can anyone think that a team whose best veteran is Kyle Seager is going to make a playoff run?
No doubt in my mind the M's start spending a lot in 2022... but it's clear 2021 ain't it and it's weird some people have fallen for it. They're literally telling you they think they're a year away with these signings.
