Adam Jones had a decent career. Ketel Marte also.
Neither were established MLB players for us.
The Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb trade was brutal, but what I remember being more mad about was trading Jose Cruz Jr for two more relievers. Seemed like over kill. The Cruz was pretty mediocre, and we would have been far better off just making that trade and not trading for Slocumb!

I think that trade scared the Mariner organization so much that they haven't really done jack shit at the deadline since! It doesn't matter who the ownership group is, they must always look back at this move and decide it means we are cursed. I'm surprised they never made a Seinfeld episode about it! LOL
Yes that is a great example but was when Bill Clinton was teaching Monica how to smuggle cigars and having her get weird stains off her dress so why are we still pretending that is still happening??

They shouldn't be, but it's an easy excuse. What kills me is they won't sign FAs, then preach Draft, Develop and Trade, but never make any trades that are a positive impact. Oh, wait, they did once. And it resulted in the only playoff appearance in the past two plus decades. My son is 21 years old, and if they hadn't made that trade they would have still not played in a playoff game in his lifetime. I wonder if his kids will get to watch a playoff game or two? I kind of doubt it. They sure as shit won't see a division title, not winning 54%!

It seems like everyone here has forgotten what was truly the worst trade in Mariner history: Bill Swift, Mike Jackson, and Dave Burba for Kevin Mitchell.

Burba became a decent starter, Jackson was a solid reliever, and Swift who was a top closer who ended up becoming a top starting pitcher. Meanwhile, Mitchell inexplicably hit nine home runs in his one season with us and then went to Cincinnati where he was even better than he was with San Francisco.

Imagine if we'd kept those three going into the mid-90s.

Horrible trade but was in the 90s and not a MLB player for prospects trade. Still waiting for an example to prove Ddraig's false notion. The Langston trade is the best example and that was a great trade for us and happened before Clinton was even in office. This FO is complete idiotic trash but for completely different reasons that trading good players for prospects.

Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg was a pretty good trade
