Re: Projecting 2021
Being fit is never going to hinder your athletic performance...being fat is never going to improve your athletic performance. This debate has always floored me. Take all the fat baseball players in the world and compare them to the ones that aren't fat. There are FAR more that are in good physical shape. There is a reason for that.
This isn't Men's Slow Pitch. And even in that sport I was always much better when I was in better shape. The believe that being more flexible and agile will some how not benefit a baseball player blows me away! Nolan Ryan pitched for ever, David Wells developed gout!

Well that's what Kyle apparently thinks, as he said it himself and transformed his body coming into camp. We all can tell how slender he is. And he's a professional Major Leagurer that does this thing for a living. Time will tell if it was worth the transformation or not by the sheer numbers.
Re: Projecting 2021
Well he is taking more walks this season but that is about it. Maybe he can see better with less chubby cheeks and eyelids.

its great to be in shape, its great that a ballplayer gets in shape, its great that Seager feels better, the issue in my mind is does it make a difference. Whenever I point that out everybody jumps on me for being against being in shape, I am not against it, but its just that I see a lot of guys getting in shape but still sucking at hitting a baseball

I feel ya brother. I hope you don't think I'm jumping on you. I still think it's a tad early to see if Kyle's transformation was worth it all or not. Someone made a great point about Daniel Vogelbach. History is lined full of out shape successful athletes. Tony Gwynn, John Kruk, Kirby Puckett, Cecil Fielder, Babe Ruth, Bartolo Colon!!!!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 1:04 amits great to be in shape, its great that a ballplayer gets in shape, its great that Seager feels better, the issue in my mind is does it make a difference. Re: Projecting 2021
no you are not jumping on me, and i am not trying to belabor by continuing, just trying to communicate. I think this is like two different issues, I am not talking about comparing chubby players to slim ones. My point is fixing a ballplayer, taking a ballplayer that is struggling at the plate and fixing him by having him "get in shape". Sure if Seager feels better maybe it can help but an actual direct correlation between the two, I don't know. The issues he has at the plate are such that I doubt all the gym work in the world will have much of an effect.

And then others who get worse when they lose weight, Felix. I still believe he lost mph exactly when he lost weight.
Nobody likes to acknowledge that he got bad as soon as he came to camp having lost the "baby weight". Sucked ever since.
If anyone has time, look up articles of when Felix came to camp in the best shape of his life and compare it to when he started losing MPH on his fastball. I'd bet he lost average velocity beginning that season.

Re: Projecting 2021
Speaking of Felix who is obviously done. He will be the second best pitcher never to start in the post season.
