Hollander doing a great job so far.
I would still fill the following holes-
2B
LF
DH
SP5
Wong/Tanaka/Haniger seems about perfect from where I'm sitting.
Then they can take their pick between Rodon or Senga for the open spot in the rotation.
Lewis and Kelenic can be injury replacements.
So many ways they can still improve the team, and already checked corner outfielder with power off the list. Great start.
Love the idea of upgrading that SP5 spot if the reports are true that they're interested in Senga. Why wouldn't you upgrade at this point, they've been sitting on their cash like Uncle Scrooge McDuck the last few years. Time to make the fans excited, and back it up for once.

Will that depend on basic stats, because he isn't going to put up career numbers (non-park-adjusted) with half his games at T-mobile.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 8:06 pmI think NOT extending Teoscar is the right move. 2023 will be his age 30 season and he'll presumably want an extension of 5 years or more and the risk on that is significant that years 3, 4, and 5 will be bad money.
I like that we're getting his free agent year and can offer him the QO next fall, which should net us an additional draft pick. Let's hope we get a career year from him that elevates him to the top tier of available free agents in 2024.
Re: Trade!!!
I'm sure he'd rather have Cincinatti as his home park but I think a career year will still be a career year regardless of what park you are playing half your games in.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:45 pmWill that depend on basic stats, because he isn't going to put up career numbers (non-park-adjusted) with half his games at T-mobile.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 8:06 pmI think NOT extending Teoscar is the right move. 2023 will be his age 30 season and he'll presumably want an extension of 5 years or more and the risk on that is significant that years 3, 4, and 5 will be bad money.

Great find, thank you!Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 5:13 pmFYI:
Hernandez suffered an oblique injury in April and also caught Covid. In the month of May he played 19 games and posted a .428 OPS.
From June 1 forward, Hernandez slashed .285/.331/.536/.867, he was 5th in ISO (total raw power) among OF's in baseball, and 11th in overall WAR generated among OF's.
Since 2020... he's posted around an .860 overall OPS. He's a signficant upgrade over Haniger.

The $14.5 price tag can be offset some by trading Winker ($8.25)
2B: Brandon Lowe seems like a carbon copy of Adam Frazier
OF: Tyler O'Neill? Seems like hes very similar to the 2022 version of Jesse Winker
I wouldn't be too enthused if those were the chosen moves.

Not many players have come to Seattle and had career years.

Okay fine. So you're saying we shouldn't hope for the player's best? What is your point exactly?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 10:58 pmGL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:56 pmI'm sure he'd rather have Cincinatti as his home park but I think a career year will still be a career year regardless of what park you are playing half your games in.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:45 pm

Re: Trade!!!
Ohtani will be available next yr to take his spot
Re: Trade!!!
I like the trade. Teoscar will be another feared slugger in the middle of the line-up. Don't want to see Suarez and him back to back in the order as both are righties and both excel in lots of K's. I read that Hernandez changed his swing from the massive uppercut flyball loft philosophy to more of a line drive swing and that helped his contact rate, so good there.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 9:14 pmI'm a bit surprised that Macko was the prospect in this trade just because it seems like Toronto would have wanted someone like Taylor Dollard or Bryce Miller. I wonder if those were the guys they wanted and Seattle simply said no, or if Macko was their guy all along. I'm not down on Macko exactly, but he's been injured a lot and it's hard to develop when you can't stay on the field. I'm also a bit surprised they didn't pry an additional mid-level prospect out of the M's, someone like Spencer Packard, Kaden Polcovich, Zach Deloach, or a pitcher from the arm pile.
The system is really getting depleted though, so that's something to watch. Most of the players that are left, especially at the top tier, are guys the Mariners should want to keep, several of which could take major leaps next season, which is pretty exciting.
Take a chance on Lowe for 2nd base. What do opposing managers and pitchers do with another slugging mistake crusher as opposed to Frazier's weak-ass Ichiro imitation minus the speed?
Go after the pitcher and OFer from Japan. It's only money and no player capital depletion if going for trades instead.
Macko is the wildcard that I disagree with, even with his walk rate and injury propensity. Dipoto (Hollander, I don't know enuf about) has always traded away left-handers and the M's are absolutely bereft of them now. Plenty of time to change with possible trades and FA signings but FanGraph's RR projects 2023 M's bullpen as thus: ~
What dregs are in AAA & AA? Sheffield could be converted to relief but I don't believe he'll ever be anybody to be counted on.
Here's the relief pitcher depth: ~
The 4 lefties in AAA? 28 y.o. Speier was waived by KC. He actually was pretty good in limited action with the Royals in '22 but sucked for them in AAA. 31 y.o. Bernardino, has exactly 2 MLB appearances in his career. Margevicius??? Yah, we all love him, don't we? Gag!!! 26 y.o. Ben Onyshko is an unknown. Certainly hasn't excelled, but he's Canadian, just like Paxton, eh? Drafted in the 24th round of the 2018 MLB draft out of Stetson U. in Florida. He wasn't a world beater at Stetson and was "adequate" in Arkansas in'22.
There's only 3 LH RP's in AA and they're unknowns, but perhaps Jorge Benitez shows promise. Down in A+ there might be three future players in Brayan Perez, Blake Townsend and Raúl Alcantara but they are young.
That's the part of the Adam Macko trade that bothers me. Swanson was a give to get. Gotta count on the M's brass to find that next bullpen lefty stud but the cupboard is bare right now, imho.
Go west, any good LH relievers in Japan?

I was asking if anyone knew what stat or stats are used when MLB evaluates a player's value in order to determine an appropriate draft compensation if he turns down the QO.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 11:03 pmOkay fine.
