Watching Urias highlights I'm starting to think that Geno is a gonner.
I'm predicting either a trade with Toronto who wants Geno or a Jeimer Candelario acquisition.
I think a Geno trade would be good news even if you just get a #5 starter as trade depth in return.

Not much drop off from Geno to Dylan Moore (or Urias) at 3B, if any.

Hawks have been running three tight end sets that I thought were considered pretty nice.
What the Seahawks have done with their tight ends group in 2023 is truly the most innovative offensive philosophy that I can think of for a Pete Carroll team since at least Russell Wilson’s zone-read option offense starting in 2012. To be honest, I am not 100-percent certain to what degree Shane Waldron is stealing or borrowing from other offensive coordinators to do what he’s doing, so maybe it is less innovative and more staying on the cutting edge

Could be just me too....but even though they feature 3 tight ends at times I don't see them throw too much to the tight end. It's like they save TE and screens for the playoffs only. Just imho.
Last week I was complaining about it while watching the game with my son and literally Geno threw to Fant.
Yeah, I do know what you mean. I thought I'd give Pete some kinda credit. I'll do that when he gets compared to Dipoto lol

I really don't know what this quote is conveying.
It's in the wrong thread I guess. He's saying he doesn't expect the mariners to be in on the top FA options, if ohtani is first, Bellinger second and so on. Off season is shaping up nicely, just have some patience
OK.
The 3rd, 4th, 5th options as far as bats go are a waste of time. After Ohtani it is a crapshoot.
They weren't going to sign Ohtani or Bellinger. But they could sign say Martinez, trade for Friedl, pick up a solid starting pitcher and some other pieces. They could add 4-5 WAR. That's the sort of off season they actually could pull off

Bwahahahahahaha! Yeah, right. Same old, same old from the Mariners. In the poem Casey at the bat. All references to Casey should be changed to DiPoto. Dipoto will strike out. Again.

And that would be a terrible offseason.

Martinez is the guy they should have signed 2 or 3 years ago, no when he's practically on his way out of the league.

Yeah this past season seems like a last hurrah type deal in terms of having productive seasons kind of like Geno's 2022. JD Had a .790 OPS at Fenway in 2022.

Ford put up 0.6 WAR in 250 PAs and JD put up 1.9 WAR in 500. Doubling Ford's you get 1.2 vs. 1.9 and Ford is 5 years younger. So you are paying about $15M extra for 0.7 WAR. Seems like a Mariner type "upgrade" and Jerry can talk about what a good hitter he used to be and how they have had their eye on him and liked him for YEARS.

I'd take Soler over Martinez, but that's the problem. Neither are good enough to make a difference. Either of those guys barely even replace Teo's bat.

They painted themselves into a corner by not getting good players when they were readily available the last three years.

There aren't many players that are difference makers that are available this year.

They're between a rock and a hard place.

They'll either have to overpay in $'s or prospects to get the right players onboard now.

Or, more likely, they'll go with some second rate group of losers and act like they're all set.

Exactly. Teo was actually a lot better from 2020-22 than Soler from 2021-23 and look how that turned out...

Also why I don't want Yandy Diaz.

Don't need a guy who has basically been Ty France.

Since we're out on Ohtani, go get Soto or go home. He's the only guy worth a shit outside of Bellinger who is likely not coming here.
