That's about the only scenario I can think of.Bil522 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:22 pmI said that as you were trying to figure out how much salary the M's offloaded. I agree that the M's probably would not have let it happen but you never know. Remember, he averaged 185+ innings/ year for the M's. There are scenarios where that may happen again.

Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
He is on pace for 145 this season. Castillo only in control of it by pitching well. If he has and ERA one year from today over 5 like he does now there is no way they let him get their and flush $25M. Common sense.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:47 pmIf he's in their rotation and healthy he will have a chance to do it. He's pitching every fifth day and putting in the innings. They aren't going to just bench him. Castillo is in control of it in my mind. That is what Castillo has been about, cranking out the innings

Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
So let's say they are in a similar situation next season as this. A shot at the playoffs a middling rotation and a healthy Castillo and they bench him. That sure makes sense. They don't trade for him if they see the control as a positive. They got him because he's an innings eater, that's what he's been good at. And of course they are going to then limit his innings, that's dumbSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:55 pmThey absolutely will.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:47 pmIf he's in their rotation and healthy he will have a chance to do it. If he's pitching to a 4.50+ ERA next year and is even sniffing 180 innings... they will scratch him or start to limit his innings.
Happens all of the time.
You think the Sox are going to just willingly keep him around for $24.5M if he's bad next year?
Sometimes I don't even know what I'm doing here on this forum with some of the bullshit I see get thrown around.
And I agree for the amount of baseball that members serm to watch the lack of actual insight is interesting.

Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
The idea of the M’s getting Millerbis dead in the water. The Mariners got their reliever in the Castillo trade.
They are apparently listening to offers involving Kirby. If these rumors are to be believed, then it stands to reason they are going after an offensive addition.
I don’t k ow what is realistic and I don’t know if the M’s are more or less giving up on this season and looking forward to next year. If they are, then they have 2 elite pitching prospects who could fill the void left by a Kirby trade.
If (and this is conjecture) the M’s are looking to do a mini rebuild right now using the trade deadline to cash in, then maybe they are looking at nearly ready major league talent (like they did when they traded for Kelenic).
In a dream world, the Brewers look to seriously bolster their rotation. They get Kirby and we get 3B prospect Jesus Made. This is pure fantasy because he is the #1 prospect in baseball, but this is the sort of scenario I am envisioning. The M’s may not be looking for current outfielder - they may be looking for a top 10 prospect. I dunno.
And yes, I am about to be lambasted for the Jesus Made trade proposal. I am bracing for the backlash!
Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
Only 28 hours to go before we trade for an impact bat...You know Kirby has significantly less control than Lopez right? but they are going to trade for him and his 1.4 for Lopez and his 5.3 WAR? The prospect haul would have to be Massive and would have to include Sloan for sure.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:59 pmGuess we'll find out.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:58 pmToo bad there are no good hitters available....Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:17 pm
They're projecting a couple of weeks out.
I'd rather create a well-balanced team vs a team with major pitching strengths and no offense.
We've seen this story before and it never ends well for the M's.

Yes - an organization like the White Sox will limit his innings if he's bad in an effort to not pay him $24.5M the following year.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:10 pmSo let's say they are in a similar situation next season as this. Would be a criminal offense to let that option vest.
Careful, I'm one of the only people on here who ever defends your constant "erm, Idk... what if..." drivel.

Exactly, that's what I said. He's in their rotation putting up innings, that's what he's in control of. If he's sniffing 180 innings he's pitching well. If he is pitching well they aren't taking him out of the rotation. It's common sense to me.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:08 pmHe is on pace for 145 this season. MLBTV has Kirby worth more than Lopez in a trade last I checked.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:12 pmOnly 28 hours to go before we trade for an impact bat...You know Kirby has significantly less control than Lopez right? but they are going to trade for him and his 1.4 for Lopez and his 5.3 WAR? That's a pretty massive "if" for an aging pitcher who has an ERA over 5.00 and his Savant page looks like this... isn't it?

Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
Interesting Idea. Here is the trade. No Way in HELL I would do it and they wouldn't either. Felnin is so much closer and hitting so much better this season. Made is freaking 19 yo.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:10 pmThe idea of the M’s getting Millerbis dead in the water. The Mariners got their reliever in the Castillo trade.
