What’s the prevailing wisdom on Spencer Torkelson? He was a highly rated prospect and the first overall pick in 2020. But he’s struggled in the majors batting .221 and a .693 OPS

But with the Tigers signing Torres, they are moving Colt Keith to 1B. They have effectively bumped Torkelson off the roster, and my guess is he’d be a cheap get while his value is tanking.

Any interest in making a run at him?
Haha! Nicely played.

He had one good season and then fell off the cliff.

What’s worse - taking a chance on Torkelson, or Locklear?

Turner is probably better than both and he is old enough to be their father. Just a dogshit off season.

Even worse dogshit is the 54% attitude of our leadership group. Would it be possible to put Bing on steroids and sic him on them?

I've long thought that Torkelson would be an interesting buy low candidate. Over the long term, I think he's a better bet to succeed than Tyler Locklear. His most glaring weakness is against offspeed pitches, and so I would put him in Tacoma for a year. The PCL is generally loaded with pitchers that are offspeed specialists, so it would be a good development environment for him.

Any trade with Detroit, they should try to get Ty Madden or Troy Melton as secondary pieces. Both are mid-ranked pitching prospects with potential, but enough flaws in their game to make them tradeable. Either one probably has more upside than Emerson Hancock.

You look at 2023 Torkelson and at first think wow, he's still only 24, but his career arc is already resembling Ryon Healy's.

It's pretty incredible how much the careers of DJ Peterson and Torkelson are lining up. Both of them 1st round 1B's from the state of Arizona. Both of them hit 30 homers in their first year in the minors. Both of them crashed out once they hit AAA.

At least Tork hit the majors.

DJ never did, and the Ms picked him twice!

I wonder what the percentage is of first round picks never making it past AAA?

DT knows, if anybody does.

You can look on B-Ref and see that data for every round of every draft going back at least several decades.

Thanks.

I’d bet it’s less than 10%.
