Luke Raley for Jose C
Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
Yeah I get it but I am guessing it was the injuries no minor league rehab stints.

Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
btw every single position player other than Julio and Cal has questions marks so Raley fits right in. That's what you get when you have a half ass slap dick cheap ass org making roster decisions.

Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
I hope nagging injuries could explain it, because according to the game logs he only missed 3 games total for the 6/23 and 8/2 injuries but then his season was pretty much over after the 9/15 injury.
The logs and stats show a player that started off hot, but declined and subsequently played less in the second half of the season until his injuries shut him down.
They used him as a platoon/pinch hitter type once teams got a book on him, mainly avoiding left handed pitching (less than 11% of his PA were against LHP, amounting to 44 PA's), is the story that the game logs tell, imo.

Yep, that's definitely the issue.
They went with the hope and pray model over the add proven players model.
Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
The other thing is we did NOT give up a MLB player for him. .282 SLG% from Memorial day on for Cabby.
Hope you can make down to ST in March!?!?!?

I'm not worried about what we gave up to get him, although I think Caballero is the more valuable piece.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 3:10 pmThe other thing is we did NOT give up a MLB player for him. .282 SLG% from Memorial day on for Cabby.

I'm just worried about handing an important LF spot over to a guy that finished the season with a .677 OPS in the second half, and his previous team felt the need to pinch hit for. Having him in LF comes as an opportunity cost of not having someone else out there.
Not going to be there this year, but will plan on it next year if the team adds some decent players after they miss the playoffs by a game again this year!
Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
Ok, how about if Raley puts up 3+ WAR this season you guarantee you are there in 2025?

Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
So when Raley had 70+ PAs a month (April-July) He had a .890 OPS.
When he got less than 70 a month (Aug. - Sept.) he had a .650 OPS.
Maybe we should give him at least 70 PAs a month.

Logan Morrison, nice recallbpj wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 12:03 pmThe hurdle I can't get over is that his second half was 166 PA, he put up 0.3 WAR and a .677 OPS from July 15th on. That's about a 0.75 WAR pace in 412 PA.
Yes, it's a small sample size, but it's still 30% of his career PA's, and looked an awful lot like his first two stints in MLB.
The only thing he has going for him is we can hope the injuries actually caused the dropoff, but hoping that's the case feels pretty risky given they're handing him an important power position where we could have had a plus bat.
Even Kelenic had a .707 OPS in the second half. Once they figured out to throw him bendy stuff, it was over.
Raley reminds me of Logan Morrison also.
Hopefully he can pull off that .770 OPS or higher, but he looks more like a .730 OPS guy imo, and that's if he doesn't have the typical Seattle nosedive. Winker went from a .950 OPS with the Reds to a .688 with the M's.
Seems like the same old story with a new name. Hope I'm wrong, but Raley is our most susceptible player to an implosion imo.
Re: Luke Raley for Jose C
Morrison was a big white guy that hit left handed so they share that in common but he only put up 3.9 WAR in almost 4k PAs.
Raley put up 2.5 WAR in 406 last season.
