Sounds like Dipoto offered Kolten Wong and Tommy LaStella multi-year contracts. They opted for the Brewers and the Giants. That would've awesome had we scored either player. Dipoto says now we're just gonna go with what we have in house. Marmolejos/Haggerty/Fraley it is.

Also saw this little tidbit....
Dipoto hates Dylan Moore. So stupid.
Yep, I guess they were going to go with Moore in LF until JK comes up and then back to UT despite the fact he has one, if not the best bats on the team.
Moores bat has been fine for a LF but I don't know why they'd intentionally add that pressure to him when he could be a + 2B and LF options were easily had.

Especially on a multi year contract for a blah 2B? I don't get it.

I do get wanting to have Moore be the UTIL given he can perform well and replace the production just about anywhere on the field.

I just think he deserves and has earned better, the starting 2B spot.

In other words, why make your UTIL player better than one of your starters? Just start the good player at the highest defensive rung on the ladder he's capable of.

Being a 2B capable of an .800 OPS is much more scarce than a 3B with an .800 OPS.

Would have been just as good an option in LF:

Deserves? You're joking! The dude had a successful season in only 173 AB's last year. Thats barely enough to get a book out in him. Lets see what he can do over the course of a full year before we start annointing him the new heir apparent to whatever "said position".

When the alternative is starting him in LF if they pick up a 2B, yeah, he's earned it more than Wong or La Stella have earned a multi year contract.

I think we can honestly say all the pieces are not in place. Wong and LaStella were offered multi-year contracts which tells us that Jerry had plans to use them for a pennant run. The reason I like them so much is that it gives us the flexibility to move multi pieces around and let the young prospects get AB's at the big league level. Its harder to do that with players that are nailed down to just one position.

This organization also has a ton of OF prospects that are on the brink of reaching the Show. I get why people say we'd like to have a better option in LF, but why sign a guy if you're not gonna play him when the rookies get here? Better yet, why would he sign here to begin with. At least in Wong and LaStella you can move those pieces around the diamond or others to the OF. This team is very thin at the INF position. It needs to acquire proven MLB veteran depth.

I just think the only one worth the at-bats is Moore, whose highest value position is at 2B.

So, the only two MLB quality starters in the conversation were Rosario and Moore (i.e. Not Long/Marm/Bishop/Fraley).

Long, Fraley, Marm, we already know the conclusion, they don't have a spot going forward and they weren't the best option this year, so they have zero interest to me.

Learning about them does exactly nothing for us because none are serious trade fodder.

I think Long and Fraley have the potential to be big league regulars. We just haven't seen enough of them yet. I know Jake Fraley was asked to lose 10 lbs and begin a new work regimen, and Long was battling leg injuries all last year. Don't get me wrong, both of their leashes are definitely shorter, but I'm not willing to write either one off yet. Especially when we traded Josh Stowers for one of them.

Guess we're going to find out.

When LF is -2 WAR at the end of the season and we miss the playoffs by 5 games, I'll be there to point out that had we signed a competent MLB player to fill the hole we could have made the playoffs.

Been meaning to point out how dipoto in those comments about a six man rotation stated this is going to be a development year. I thought that was telling. Kick and scream all you want, but it's going to be about looking at players, rather than a push to make the playoffs
