Both - yeah - 1? No - I'd happily give up one of them for Naylor. I don't feel they will ever be better than a #3 or 4 starter so trade them for a good bat - please. The pitchers you only trade for ELITE bats would be Gilbert/Kirby.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:31 pmI would disregard the career numbers as he's been solid for the last two years and he's 26. He'd be awesome as a DH-1B. The question is, what's too much to give up for him? Woo? Miller?

This might be the best convo between two humans that I have ever witnessed.

It says that Beiber is expected to make 12.2M in his last year and Naylor is set to make 7.2M. =19.4M total. The rumored interest in guys like Hoskins, Belt, and Soler would be difficult to make it fit well on paper. With Hoskins and Naylor you would probably try to keep Hoskins as a DH mainly and play Josh in LF with France at 1B. An alternative would be to play France at 3B.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:52 pmYes, that would be too much. Only have him for 2 seasons.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:31 pmI would disregard the career numbers as he's been solid for the last two years and he's 26. He'd be awesome as a DH-1B. Beiber is coming off a 109 ERA+ year but only pitched 2 games after July 9th Sept 22nd he gave up 3 earned in 5 innings against Baltimore. But came back on the 27th vs the Reds pitching 6 innings and only giving up 1 run.
Ralphy Velasquez is a C/1B 19 year old 1st Rd. pick and is the Guardian's #7 overall prospect. And would add an amazing 5 1st Rd pick to that 2023 crop( I am counting our 3 and Celestin as counting as a 1st Rd. equivalent).
The angle for making this trade is that you trade long-term pitching for a guy that could drop a CY run to pair with Castillo and Kirby who will likely garner that same type of performance review.
The argument against it: We need to invest everything we can into hitting. This pairing of too many (3X) 1B/DH is just wonky. Maybe Cleveland could pull the prospect and pay some cash to offset and if we added a top 10 prospect maybe they pay 1/2 or more and we can invest that into 1 or 2 more bats?
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
By the end of the first week of January last year the Mariners were settling for AJ Pollock as half of their LF platoon.
The good players are going to start going fast.
I have a feeling we'll see something like the Winker/Suarez deal some time around March just about the time we've all given up hope.
On the other hand Dipoto may be left with nothing because he'll be counting on the last deal of the offseason and the other team could pull a Jack Z and decide to go another direction.
This offseason is so boring. Don't even actually have hope they're in on any of the players they need because they've already pre-emptively claimed poverty.

54% isn't small, this is what I keep bringing up.. The issue as I see it isn't Dipoto thinking small by aiming at 54%. It's how are the moves he makes building the foundation of that team that could do it. Sustainability isn't just not spending money

It's like he laid a trap to get the debate off topic that everyone fell into. By complaining about 54% it's like you have accepted the moves he makes is focused on that. That 54% is a successful team so he wins. I think it make more sense to complain about his moves not being focused on winning 54% than complaining about 54%
