OT: US Open Golf Draft (12-15 Jun) – Draft Part 1 (Closed)

Post by mostonmike » Sun Jun 01, 2025 1:18 pm

It’s the third major of the season already. Thanks for everyone’s feedback and suggestions, and there were obvious lessons from the PGA. Here is the format for the first part of the draft.

The draft order comes from the final standings of the PGA last month

Order of Picks
1 D-Train
2 mostonmike
3 Juliooooo
4 Walla Walla Dawg II
5 rockycola
6 desbcoach
7 TLO Idaho
8 Seattle or Bust
9 baller
10 maoling
11, 12, 13 etc – AN Other

Part One – First Pick Only
All we need for now is your first round pick. I’m pretty sure we can rattle through the order and make your top pick. Lets aim to get through the list by Wednesday 4th or Thursday 5th at the latest

Deadlines
We need a soft deadline of 12 hours since last pick, but let’s be sensible and take into account timezones and we know WallaWalla will struggle a bit if we enforce a strict deadline.

Happy for anyone to send me a personal message with their pick order.

Or, you could also post your top 2 or 3 picks and we’ll get it sorted and that will keep the line moving.

Additonal players welcome
If anyone else wants to join in – just post your interest and you get 11th pick, 12th pick and so on in the order in which you post, but the deadline to enter will be once baller picks his man.

The field
You can obviously pick anyone from the field, but here is the most likely pool of players for first picks.

Top 25 in Official Golf World Rankings
1 Scottie Scheffler - D-Train
2 Rory McIlroy - mostonmike
3 Xander Schauffele - rockycola
4 Collin Morikawa - desbcoach
5 Justin Thomas - TLO Idaho
6 Ludvig Åberg - Walla Walla Dawg II
7 Hideki Matsuyama - Seattle or Bust * allocated
8 Russell Henley - maoling * allocated
9 Sepp Straka
10 Bryson DeChambeau (LIV2) - Juliooooo
11 Maverick McNealy
12 Tommy Fleetwood
13 Viktor Hovland
14 Shane Lowry
15 Patrick Cantlay
16 Harris English
17 Justin Rose
18 Keegan Bradley
19 Robert MacIntyre
20 Corey Conners
21 Sungjae Im
22 Wyndham Clark
23 Tyrrell Hatton
24 Ben Griffin
25 J.J. Spaun
LIV1 Joaquin Niemann
LIV3 John Rahm - baller
Recent winner 2022 Matt Fitzpatrick
Recent winner 2019 Gary Woodland
Recent winner 2017, 2018 Brooks Koepka
Recent winner 2016 at this course Dustin Johnson
Recent winner 2015 Jordan Spieth

Clear and obvious A.W.O.L
If there is a clear and obvious issue where we have to bypass someone in the draft, then you will be allocated the highest available player from the list above. Although we are rivals in the contest, we all know each other from the previous contests to make a call on it, so we will just take a sensible approach but we need to aim to get through the first picks by Wednesday 3rd or Thursday 4th – that gives us a week to get the main draft.

Stage Two of the draft
As soon as we get through the lineup, I’ll put up the 2nd post for the rest of the draft so keep an eye out for the second thread.
Away we go –
D-T, you are on the clock……… I wonder who you will pick?

And to get the ball rolling, I'd obviously have Scheffler as my first pick if DT doesn't take him. Otherwise I'll stick with Rory. Juliooooo its quite likely you can get on with your pick already......

I liked the good ole days when it was the Masters in April, the Players which was considered a sub Major in May as the 5th most prestigious tourney in May US Open in June, British in July and PGA in August.

Well after overthinking it and considering getting cute I will do the obvious and go with Scheffler.

Completely agree. The old calendar was almost perfect.

Juliooooo over to you, Walla Walla maybe pick your top two and you will definitely get one of them depending on Juliooooo’s choice.

Looks like it is the NFL's fault:

AI Overview
Learn more
The PGA Championship was moved to May in 2019 as part of a larger effort to realign the PGA Tour's schedule. This move aimed to avoid competition with the NFL, which typically has a high viewership, and also to create a more balanced schedule for the four major championships. The new schedule placed the PGA Championship in May, following the Masters and ahead of the U.S. Open, with the Open Championship (British Open) in July. This arrangement allowed the PGA Tour to conclude its FedEx Cup Playoffs before the start of the NFL season.

Xander, Justin, Ludwig - in that order.
One of those three will be available to me, guaranteed.
As always, many thanks and a tip of the bowler to you for your creative administering of this.

Cheers Juliooooo.

Walla Walla Dawg II goes on the clock

Regular viewers are aware, he might need a wee bit longer to make his pick. Rocky has already helped us out by preselecting.

Thanks everyone, going smoothly so far. Just need to check all the passports of everyone called Kim before post 2.
