OT: Comparing Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to the Baseball Hall Of Fame

I was looking at this year's Rock and Roll HOF inductees, and since the music industry slammed the door shut on rock and roll about 25 years or so ago, the HOF is running out of top-notch rock acts to induct and their inductees are underwhelming.
The R&R HOF isn't like in baseball or other sports where you have an accumulation of accomplishments. They induct acts that only released a few albums but hit it really big like Guns N' Roses and Nirvana. This year they're inducting Cyndi Lauper who had one huge album and one other hit song, and Chubby Checker who not one person on the entire planet can name a second hit song of his (fingers crossed for Fats Domino next year).
Other inductees this year are The White Stripes, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, Bad Company and Outkast. All good acts, but if they were MLB players it would be like inducting a bunch of players with career WARs of 30-40. If Lauper had an MLB equivalent it would probably be Denny McLain and if Checker had an MLB equivalent it would probably be Mark Fidrych.
To induct acts who have had pantheon-caliber careers they've had to venture into pop (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey) and country (Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton) and it just looks silly at this point.

I don't know if this is on topic but it never ceases to amaze me looking at like the top songs of 1966, the amount of material being pumped out. You think classic rock songs, it wasn't about year to year, it was week to week. That to me was rock, the volume and intensity of it. A Hof is basically celebrating longevity, which in my mind is the antithesis of actual rock. Rock has been co-oped into the malaise that is popular music. It was killed by it's success

White Stripes? I really like 7 Nation Army, but not sure I can name another song. I do love Soundgarten and Bad Company though. Cindy Lauper will hold a special place in my heart, because my Junior High Girlfriend loved her....and I loved my Junior High Girlfriend!

That's a very good observation. The top acts put out new albums pretty much every six months or so. The Beatles were smart not to tour or they would have killed each other. And The Monkees released their first three albums in just seven months. Imagine if they'd actually played on them as well as doing the show.

What's odd is that Alice In Chains was at least neck and neck (and a lot of people would say they were better) with Soundgarden but somehow not being inducted as well.

I've never heard his version and I think I'll check it out, although I'll be surprised if it's anywhere near as good as Jerry Lee Lewis's.

Valid point. Very similar groups. I would think the fact That Cornell broke off and formed Audioslave would actually have diminished Soundgarden....but who knows.
