The passing of Diego Segui and the lack of old baseball game footage

The man who started the first game in Mariner history, Diego Segui, died yesterday at the age of 87. He pitched for the Mariners and the Pilots, and his son David Segui played for the Mariners.

Unfortunately, there's no footage of the Mariners' first game anywhere, nor their first victory in their third game, nor any other game in 1977, and very little footage of any of their games in the '70s and '80s. Here's the oldest Mariner game I could find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNGhYaWW8S0 About the only other thing from that era on Youtube is Lenny Randle blowing the ball foul in 1981.

Miraculously, there are clips of two Pilots games on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSTprNed3yI

Other than the postseason, there's very little regular-season (and in some cases even post-season) game footage for any team in previous decades, and that is a travesty. It would be nice to see extensive game footage from games played at the Polo Grounds, Crosley Field, Forbes Field, Connie Mack Stadium, etc., but there is almost none in existence.

Apparently back then networks would cheaply and stupidly tape over game footage with no foresight whatsoever. They did the same thing in football, even taping over the first Super Bowls. Just an asinine policy that ended up robbing future generations of fans.

Anyway, RIP Diego, and FU old-time baseball.
