Bottom line is, this is now up to the players to determine how badly they want it and that their play will reflect it.
Bar none, this is now the most talented roster in the AL West and if the M's can't catch a hobbled Astros team or are overtaken by a mediocre Rangers roster, they've failed.
For all the flack Jerry gets, he has delivered this go around and the players must seize the moment. If they fail, it's not on Jerry... it's on everyone in that clubhouse.
We'll see how they do with the spotlight now squarely on them.
Either put up or shut up. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping I'm surprised.
If at the end of the year they come up short, you can't look at Jerry. It will be on JP, Julio, Cal, George, Logan, etc... they have to take the next step.

Completely agree except I don't think you can include Cal in there as someone who hasn't done their part. He's been carrying the team on his shoulders the entire season despite being pitched around the majority of the time.
I hate Jerry, and I hate Stanton even more. But that being said, no one can complain about them not doing their part and making an effort this trade deadline. As you said, now it's up to the players to step up and start putting forth a little more effort. And it wouldn't hurt for Wilson to start holding some these guys accountable as well. I get the impression he's a little too buddy buddy with them and that's never a good thing.

Mediocre. Rangers have the best pitching in the game and just enough offense. They are gonna a tough fight. Far far from mediocre

Just really really hope no lingering wrist soreness. He has been hit there a lot. Gotta make sure all is 100% good

Jerry was responsible for putting us in this spot in the first place. The bullpen is still light a high leverage arm.

Spare, They need to pick up a leverage arm. Something like a Felix Bautista.
If they get something in that range, 100!

Still need a starter and an bullpen arm but overall you are correct. We got 5 legit bats 4 streaky ones. I'd love to see Jerry get greedy and grab Cruz or Kwan to increase the offense even more - Kwan settles our leadoff spot issue we have with Crawford being to unreliable, while Cruz is just a beast that then gives us 6 legit bats.
But tomorrow would be great to see them get a Bednar or top reliever.. even see if AZ is willing to give us Kelly on the cheap as well. At this point I think they would jump at Evans or Hancock and a low level prospect for him.
But moving forward - does Garver get axed soon and Ford is brought up if he isn't traded tomorrow?

I am excited for Geno coming back, but still felt like a losing day yesterday. 3-4 road trip against the 4th and 5th place teams in your division. A division you should be winning instead of pissing these games away. 53 games to go and 5 games over .500. Even if you go 5 games over .500 the rest of the way that still only gets you to 86-76, which I am not sure gets you in the playoffs. I hope Geno lights a spark, as someone else alluded to, I just am not seeing that with this team and haven't all season.
I wish the boys well the rest of the way.
