Way too early offseason
I know we're in the midst of a pennant chase here but I thought I'd get this party started a little early. Give me your way too early predictions for the offseason. Should happen vs. will happen.
Should happen
-Trade Munoz & JP for a 1B
-Move 1 of our starters
-Find a new closer, possibly throw Brash or Santos in there
-Let the kids battle it out for the infield spots
-Move off of Solano & Moore
-Get more speed on the bench
-Figure out what to do with Polanco
Here's an idea could start developing feathers (albeit don't know how strong of a possibility that is):
-Moving Cal off catcher & transitioning him to 1B, allowing Harry Ford to man the backstop
As for Naylor & Geno I have no idea. Right now I'm in the "let one of the kids take Geno's spot at 3rd". I'm ready to see what Emerson & Ford can do in the big leagues. Arroyo probably too. Don't know how the market is gonna play out so I don't know if we'll be in the running for guys like Tucker & possibly Schwarber (who's bat would rake here). Also wouldn't hamstring you financially with the payroll. Gotta add another power lefty in this lineup. Possibly move him to 1B as well. That is a ton of money to pay for a DH. I mean think about it with his bat & veteran leadership, that lineup would go from good to great is a flash. Imagine a lineup of
1. Randy
2. Julio
3. Cal
4. Schwarber
Definitely something I'd think Dipoto & company should strongly consider. Just my thoughts, what say you guys?

move the premier defensive catcher in MLB to first base, there's an idea.
Re: Way too early offseason
I think it is way to early to determine and way to early to move Cal and way to early to count on all the kids

Re: Way too early offseason
I'm sorry this all complete nonsense.
-Trade Munoz & JP for a 1B So trade one of the best closers in the game making minimal money and our starting SS for a 1B? Who is this 1B btw?
-Move 1 of our starters Why for what? You are good with Emerson Hancock in the rotation for months when one of our starters is injured again?
-Find a new closer, possibly throw Brash or Santos in there Brash might be a good closer but who is going to pitch the 8th inning?? Santos??? You want to rely on a guy that has thrown 14 inning in a season and a half as your closer???
-Let the kids battle it out for the infield spots Who exactly is ready to play SS in the big leagues???? Letting kids battle it out for key positions is not a plan in another go for it season. That is a rebuild plan
-Move off of Solano & Moore Hey congrats this is you first great idea but uh they are FAs do honestly think we are even considering resigning either of them??? It is like saying don't resign Ichiro.
-Get more speed on the bench We are 3rd in all of baseball in Stolen bases so this isn't remotely a need.
-Figure out what to do with Polanco He won't accept his player option so he is going to be a FA so there is nothing to figure out.
Here's an idea could start developing feathers (albeit don't know how strong of a possibility that is): Developing Feathers? Isn't this a better idea for the Seahawks. lol
-Moving Cal off catcher & transitioning him to 1B, allowing Harry Ford to man the backstop As Donn mentioned this is just absolutely absurd and I thought we just traded JP and Munoz for a 1B. Is Cal going to be the BU 1B??? My God man
Better luck next time.

Pretty much what I meant by way to early several timesSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 2:40 pmI think it’s too early for this thread.
This is a September thread when the M’s are foundering and 5 back of the WC.

Not just that. The value of 40+ homers from catcher is massive, because you can get just about anyone to man the bag at first. Getting offensive production from catcher is huge. Catcher and shortstop are the most skilled defensive positions. First base is probably the least. First base is basically like the second DH.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 7:21 ammove the premier defensive catcher in MLB to first base, there's an idea.

Yep, same reason Boone was so valuable. Not many 2nd Baseman hit for that kind of power. I used to say the same about Griffey. CF was an Otis Nixon Kenny Locton type position back then. Griffey was Mays.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 4:40 pmNot just that. The value of 40+ homers from catcher is massive, because you can get just about anyone to man the bag at first. A Rod provided that at SS as well. But it seems every time we had that? We lacked somewhere else that many lineups didn’t. 3rd and LF often. Maybe it doesn’t matter? Maybe when we look at offense, we should look at batting order and not what defensive position they play? Is the lineup worse if your Catcher is a bopper and your 3rd Baseman isn’t?
I realize it should allow us to improve elsewhere, but what are the odds this team spends money to complement the lineup they have? My guess is we complain all off season about how they didn’t add enough fire power, and at the deadline we are hanging around the last WC spot hoping to find a suitable trade partner so we can pay a rental in the short term.
I don’t think it matters if our Catcher hits for power or not. They aren’t going to add the pieces around him to take advantage of it anyway.

yeah, kinda the same thing. Teams have abandoned the idea of getting offense out of the catcher position. Like that article i posted awhile ago, you have a decent catcher that gives you 20 home runs, the guy is a superstar. Cal's value as a catcher is absolutely tremendous, delivering both premium defense and offense. Ford as a lot of potential that way as well, and its why they drafted StevensonDanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 4:40 pmNot just that. you mean like adding Naylor and Suarez? They are 3rd in MLB in home runs behind the Yankees and Dodgers and thats not all Cal. They have some power around him and its in a pitchers parkMichael K. wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 4:54 pmYep, same reason Boone was so valuable. Not many 2nd Baseman hit for that kind of power.
