Payroll situation

Post by Captain 97 » Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:12 pm

I saw the comment in the Jude article saying that the M's had more to spend then ever. So I thought I'd Check that out. I really don't think thats the case.

2026 Payroll Guaranteed Obligations = 80.89 M

Castillo 24.15 M
Rodriguez 20.19 M
Raleigh 12.67 M
Crawford 12 M
Munoz 6.75 M
Robles 5.13 M

Pre Arbitration Contracts = 10.4 M
Woo .8 M
Bazardo .8M
Mastraboni .8M
Canzone .8M
Vargas .8 M
Bliss .8M
Hancock .8M
Rivas .8 M
Evans .8 M
Ford .8 M
Taylor .8 M
Williamson .8M
Young .8 M

Likely Arbitration numbers = 43.5 M
Arozarena 17 M
Gilbert 11 M
Kirby 6 M
Miller 2 M
Speier 2 M
Brash 2 M
Raley 1.5 M
Santos 1 M
Kowar 1 M

Likely Non tenders
Thorton 2.25 M
Saucedo 1.1 M
Legumina .8 M

Total = 134.79 M for 28 Roster spots

M's Payroll for 2025 was around 165 Million. So unless they increase significantly they only have about 30 Million to spend. It will take 30 Million just to resign Naylor and Polanco. I predict that there are going to be a ton of disappointed M's fans when they see the way this off season plays out.

The Super Two system is imperfect.

Seattle selected starters Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo in the fourth and sixth rounds of the 2021 draft.

Miller and Woo made their MLB debuts in 2023, Miller in May and Woo in June.

Miller has posted 3.7 bWAR in 402 MLB innings, including a negative 0.8 bWAR this year. Woo has posted 7.2 bWAR in 395.2 MLB innings, including 4.3 bWAR this year.

With two years and 153 days of MLB service, Miller is a Super Two with a projected 2026 salary of $2.4 million.

With two years and 121 days of MLB service, Woo falls short of Super Two status and is likely to earn near the league minimum of $820,000 in 2026.

That difference of at least $1.5 million can be compounded annually over their three additional years of team control in 2027-29.

Per Cot's, the M's will have a payroll of $127,822,381 for the traveling 26 man roster on opening day, 2026. Where did you get your numbers? I'm willing to bet the difference is in the projected arb dollars. A difference of almost $7 million is very significant.

Cot's has the opening day 2026 40-man payroll at $130,492,181.

I agree with your prediction. lol And Jerry says it will be the highest payroll ever assuming that none of the fanbase knows what inflation is. Payroll in 2018 was $162M with is over $210M in 2025 and about $215M in 2026.

Ummm... They are showing Garver on the roster for 2026 at $12 million, AND, they are showing everyone on the 40-man roster being paid the MLB minimum. That's just not how it works. When, for instance, Ben Williamson gets called up for a few weeks during the season he will get paid a prorated salary for time spent on the 26 man roster.

Rough numbers are 1 week on the 26-man roster equals something like $31,500. 1 day at the MLB level is about $4500.

We are paying JP Crawford $12 mill ?

He cant even throw a simple ground ball to 1B without causing the fielder to stretch like Nadia Comăneci and tidy up his waywardness.

I'm surprised Donn hasn't posted his article yet that tells you a 1B prefers that a SS spikes throws vs hitting you in the chest.

A Castillo trade is more likely this winter than before. His full no trade clause was only good till end of 2025 and now he would only get a 1 mil reassignment bonus
