Fried v. Gilbert @ 6:40 on TBS

This is game 6 and already our 4th channel. I think the last time I saw a game on TBS, Dale Murphy was playing.

If you don't get TBS, I think it'll also be available on the KitchenAid Network, which can be seen on certain models of stand-mixers.

I like this ABS system.

An improvement like instant replay.

How are you guys liking it?

What effect do you think it'll have on our pitching results?

When they use it yes. Gotta be selective with it.

Yankees have been killing it. Go five for five... Are the mariners getting better calls or just not using it. Boone probably doesn't feel the Yankees get favorable treatment

After that at-bat, Estabrook and New York manager Aaron Boone had a verbal exchange, with Boone remaining in the dugout

I'm reading about Hancock, it's like a Rocky feel good story. He worked out on his own in Georgia, throwing into a net, no special equipment. Comes in a new man. That, or it's peds
When Hancock arrived to spring training, there was a noticeable difference in his stuff and command. The velocity on his two fastballs and gyro slider had increased. The break on his slow sweeper had increased from 11 inches to 18 inches. And the increased confidence in himself and his place in the organization and MLB as a whole felt palpable.

“I didn’t have TrackMan or anything like that back home, it was just one of those feel things,” he said

It's good, but I think they should fast-forward to a totally automated system. The homeplate ump can make the calls like usual while getting the calls in an earpiece or something. I don't think the system is fast enough for that yet, but when it is...

In the meantime, I'd assume there will be shenanigans where batters get a signal from the bullpen or dugout when to make the challenge Teams will all figure out some system. I think 5 for 5 tonight by the Yankees tonight will seem quaint very soon. I won't be surprised to see 10+ calls changed in a game by one team.

Ten successful challenges? There shouldn't be that many bad calls to begin with. The sites that keep track aren't picking up that kind of rate are they?

The challenge is supposed to come within two seconds of the call. There shouldn't be time to relay messages to the player.

Terms of changing it, the challenge system was decided on based on the fan and player input they got using it in the minors. I think they probably are pretty happy with it. There's not going to be a lot of interest in changing things again

It'll be 10+ once they're challenging every bad call and not just consequential bad pitches.
And yeah, if you've seen reports on umpires there will be more than enough challenges to make.

That's what I was getting at, Mike had posted data on calls. You have to be careful what you challenge, lose and lose the chance to challenge. Five seems like an impressive number to get correct to me. We shall see. Seems the mariners need to be a little more aggressive?

I asked AI, it's saying on average umpires get around 12 calls wrong a game. You're not going to challenge every wrong call. Five successful challenges seems like a lot to me
MLB umpires miscall an average of approximately 9 to 14 balls and strikes per game, which equates to an overall accuracy rate of about 92%–93% in recent seasons. While total missed calls were as high as 34,294 in 2018, the introduction of the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system aims to reduce these errors
