He's 21 and doesn't seem to be particularly close to the MLs. Maybe he's promoted in Pat Murphy's lifetime.

Milwaukee agreed to sign Pratt to an eight-year, $50.75 million extension, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY. The long-term contract extension is an indication that the Brewers view Pratt as a key part of their future plans, though it remains to be seen when he’ll be promoted to MLB. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated a call-up is not imminent.

“What’s not to like? Aptitude, he’s a baseball player, a good baseball player. He’s got a ways to go. He’s got to develop. Great human, worker. Hope I’m around when he makes it to the big leagues,” Murphy said of the organization’s decision to sign Pratt to the eight-year contract, via David Gaspar of The Game MKE.

The young shortstop isn’t the most gifted hitter. He had a .691 OPS and struck out 80 times across 120 games at Double-A Biloxi in 2025, though he did have 31 extra-base hits and 31 stolen bases.

I think they are nuts but they gave him half the money and his OPS was 100 points lower. Not a crazy comparison.

Big difference is they didn't say he was a lock to contribute this season.

Yeah, he doesn't seem particularly close to the Majors. Interesting too the Brewers number one and two prospects are both SSs that are younger than Pratt

The Cooper Pratt contract doesn't make any sense at all. He's likely an above average defensive shortstop that projects to a below average major league bat. I mean, these are the guys you sign as minor league free agents or pick up on waivers. He isn't even Milwaukee's top prospect.

Yeah, they have higher prospects that play his position. He would seem to be more of a trade candidate than a eight year contract candidate. He's pretty highly regarded I guess, 60 nationally? I'm not gonna second guess the Brewers, they know what they are doing. It seems like what Passan talked about. It turns on a guy being willing to do it.

Well, AAA is an advanced assignment. The pitchers at that level, on average, have loads more experience than the pitchers he would normally be facing at AA. Many of them have significant time in the major leagues and are doing their best to get back there. It isn't spring training where nobody gives a shit what happens.

To me, his numbers so far show a guy that's challenged by the level, but holding his own. He probably should spend most of the season down there.
