The joy of rooting for a long time loser!

As long suffering Washington Senators fans from the 50s, till they moved to Minnesota, and from the 60s, when they moved to Texas, my buddies and I never had Any expectations.
But we loved our guys, and also liked to see the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Oakland A’s, etc.
We always used to stand outside at the end of the game, waiting for our favorites to come out and sign autographs.
Frank Howard and Ken McMullen are just a few that come to mind.
When we finally had a winning season, in 1968, with Manager Ted Williams, it was like we had just won the World Series!
And another thing, these ball players were just like us, they made very little money, and had to work in the off-season.
In fact, I will never forget, while waiting for my bus to junior high, I actually saw some of our players at the apartment complex, taking out the garbage!
