Hi, registering for the Mariners forum,
I'm from Salinas, CA, now reside in Tacoma. At 12 in 1972, I was pitching "tennis baseball" against the garage door with my friends and heard on radio Gonzalo Marquez lift the A's over the Tigers in G1 of the 72 ALCS. Marquez went on to pinch hitting infamy, the A's won 3 straight WS, and I became obsessed. Cards, pulp mags and weeklys like Baseball Digest and Sporting News, numerous HOF autographs, stat memorization, playing the game - these are signs of addiction. I must have grown tired of winning because I switched allegiance to the Red Sox in 75. Perhaps this was pre-conditioning for Mariner fanship, given the outcome of that season. Went to numerous A's & Giants games. Marriage, kids, and life came. After moving to Seattle in 93, I managed to see number of games at the Kingdome - saw Arod hit 2 triples in a game as a rookie, Randy pitching against the "...25 Yanks..." if you remember the banner someone put up. Watched the Kingdome get blown up from West Seattle. Voted against a new stadium but we got it anyway and I love the place. It will always be Safeco Field to me. After divorce in 99, I met Kristin, the best girlfriend a guy could dream of - she had half season Mariner tickets - 41 games. 2 glorious years at field level in section 126, row 28, seats 11 & 12, looking down the 3rd base line, for the 2000 & 2001 seasons. We literally walked up the front entrance under the bats and our seats were steps away! The 2001 season - it was just fever, crazy. I caught several backhand bags of peanut from the "Peanut Man". Favorite game I ever saw - Rickey Henderson reaching base 5 times - 5 BB, 2 SB, 2 R - all without an official AB! Saw Arod's return to Safeco - the Monopoly money game - so much fun! We often went to Palisade after games. Many other games my sons were there too (and yes they came to Palisade a lot). I bought 4 seats in the nosebleed section by the Hit it Here Cafe in 2003. Now I'm retired. Was glad to find this forum which I've been reading for about 3 years, and really like the dedicated M's fans. I bring true fanship, baseball history and legend to the forum, and of course, passion for the Mariners.
Jay
