For the life of me I cannot understand why fans are still upset over Arozarena apparently dogging on a fly ball to left field.

He (aside from Canzone) is the only player on this roster that does not have his head fully shoved up his ass with a bat in his hands. To Randy's credit, he's transformed himself as a hitter this year. He works counts, his eye has improved immensely, he is taking 2-strike pitches to right field... and best of all? He is is working his ass off at the dish. Why is that not being celebrated but instead just accepted? Why is this effort not applauded?

You want to know what I think is dogging it? Hitters just mailing in AB's as often as the M's hitters do.

I'll take a lazy route to a fly ball over Julio NEVER making an adjustment in his approach. To me, him swinging for the fences over a slider for the 100th time in a row is far worse and selfish.

I'll take a lazy route to a fly ball over JP Crawford going on a 3 for 40 streak where he walked twice because his selfishness in knowing he has to swing the bat get a contract outweighs continuing what he's good at.

I'll take a lazy route to a fly ball over Luis Castillo sitting there pouting in the dugout b/c he's forced into relief work due to pitching like absolute dog shit while making $20M a year. You're telling me what Randy did is more selfish than that? A pitcher who is putting his pride in front of the team's performance?

Really just highlights how little a glove matters if a player has a bat.

The only position I'd even think about defense is probably SS.

And thats still only if the bats were equal on two players to choose between.

I'd roll with 10 Edgar's if I could.

Then I'd win, 40-20.

I think you nailed it with perceived effort. Its really no different than getting on Robinson Cano for not running out infield outs. Fans want to see effort

I hope you arent implyig Edgar was a poor defensive player. He wasnt moved to full time DHing because of his defense. It was because of his injury risk.

The player i might use for a offense vs defense debate would be Raul Ibanez. He was a lousy left fielder but fans loved him, there was never a lack of effort. There you had a real trade off. Could you win with a team of Raul Ibanezs?

Agree with this thread. People wanting Arozarena to be traded are nuts. It would be nice to see him hustle all the time, but the occasional loaf we can live with as long as he rakes. If it weren't for him and Canzone we'd have the worst offense in baseball instead of the Padres.

I get it, it pisses me off when they loaf, but it pisses me off when they act like they don't give a shit what the score is, or don't know the situation, or get caught dozing on the bases, or stare at strikes and waive at balls....you name it, this bunch of over paid SOBs has done it.

Seems like I keep hearing that Randy is a bit banged up and is playing through it. That said? Why is he in the All Star game then? I mean, did he need two at bats in the All Star game if he isn't able to run for a foul ball?

But, again, I'd take Randy over Julio right now any day. Julio is dog shit every first half of the season, and goes through every game like a second grader at recess. Enjoy the game, but maybe don't enjoy it as much as you do even though you are simply cashing checks. He infuriates me. Dude is literally cashing checks for half of his work year for his entire career, and still loved and excused because he is just a slow starter. Bullshit, he is just lazy as shit. How does that not irritate the shit out of more people....yet Randy performing at an All Star level and loafing on a fly ball is a fire able offense?
