MLB Trade Deadline Plan 3.0
Posted: Wed Jul 29, 2026 3:01 am
This plan is for sort of a reset style trade deadline. They trade for some boom potential rentals and prospects in an effort to make the playoffs but also build for future years.
Mariners trade RHP Emerson Hancock, OF Korbyn Dickerson, C Jhonny Pereda to the White Sox for 3B Caleb Bonemer and RHP Tanner McDougal
Bonemer likely starts at 3B for the M's in 2028. He's a top 50 prospect with serious pop and athleticism. He's got 24 homers between A+ and AA and has a solid glove for the hot corner. McDougal is someone the Mariners can call up now and put in their bullpen. He's a 2-pitch starter that is likely more destined for the bullpen... he touches 101 with a wipe out slider. The White Sox 4/5 are bad and they could very much use another controlled starter. Their catching is among the worst in baseball... combining for -1.9 bWAR making Pereda an interesting option. M's have to add a good prospect in Dickerson to help compel the Sox to move a couple of their top 10 guys.
Mariners trade RHP Luis Castillo, OF Luke Raley, and RHP Eduard Bazardo to the Phillies for LHP Jose Alvarado
The M's give up a lot to get out from under Luis Castillo's contract. The Phillies need a 5th starter, an outfielder, and bullpen help. They take on some payroll to get that done. The Mariners bring back Jose Alvarado. He has a 6.00 ERA but his savant page is bright red. He'll be a free agent at the end of the year but the M's would add another guy throwing 100 mph with elite stuff.
Mariners trade OF Brock Rodden and RHP Brock Moore to the Royals for OF Lane Thomas and RHP Lucas Erceg
Thomas has posted an .870 OPS month of July and has turned his season around after a slow start through May. He replaces Raley to help balance the M's offense a bit vs lefties. Erceg has team control but has pitched quite poorly this year after a couple of really solid years prior. He throws 97-99 and is a resurgence candidate. The Royals move some MLB pieces to get near MLB ready pieces back.
