It's just an uncanny thing where successful players put on a Mariner uniform and turn into shit. How many times has it happened in recent years? Arozarena has been pretty much the only player in recent years who's maintained the level of success he achieved elsewhere.
It even happened to Robbie Ray. Dude was coming off a Cy Young Award winning season, should have been even better for us and immediately regressed into an average pitcher.

Hard to believe that Naylor basically played MVP calibar baseball in Seattle for two or so months....and still had a WAR of only 0.6 for the year. Not to mention the fact that it's the only season he had a positive WAR when he got more than 104 plate appearances. Looks like he might have fooled us pretty good.

Olerud, Bret Boone and to a lesser extent Robbie Cano too. Yeah, Olerud fell off a little, Cano was basically a similar season. Cruz came to t-mobile and actually improved on his numbers. Remember him having the great season for his one year in Baltimore wondering if It was an outlier, expecting the worse. He improved on it. He really was a great hitter, and he did it later in career

This is why I don't believe our pitching is actually all that good. I think there's a park factor that the coaching staff optimizes for that makes them better at home, but disadvantages them on the road. I no longer believe in the myth that this organization has some special touch when it comes to developing pitchers. Something is wrong with this team, there is no question about that. I guess I have more faith that a new manager and staff can impact the Pitchers we have in a positive way then they can the hitters. The approach looks terrible. It is a group of exceptionally selfish hitters.
