I think we all realize that this season is all but done but I have been too invested over the last 5 months to just throw in the towel. So what would it take for the M's to make the playoffs?

AL WEST

Houston 74-72
Games Remaining
1 vs Philadelphia 0-1
3 vs Tampa Bay 0-3
3 vs Kansas City 2-1
3 vs Atlanta 1-2
2 vs Seattle 0-2
4 vs Sacramento 2-2
Total 5-11, Final Record 79-83

Texas 72-74
Games Remaining
1 vs. Seattle 0-1
3 vs Arizona 1-2
3 vs Boston 1-2
3 vs Toronto 1-2
3 vs NYM 2-1
3 vs. Minnesota 1-2
Total 6-10, Final Record 78-84

Seattle 68-78
Games Remaining
1 vs Texas 1-0
3 vs Sacramento 2-1
3 vs Anaheim 2-1
3 vs Colorado 2-1
2 vs Houston 2-0
4 vs Anaheim 2-2
Total 11-5, Final Record 79-83

Seattle wins tiebreaker over Houston.
Seems pretty unlikely but.....
The M's went 11-5 at the end of May/Beginning of June.
The Astros had a stretch of 3-13 in April,
and The rangers had 3 separate stretches at 6-10 in Late April- Early May, again in Late July-Early August and then another in Late August.

So all 3 of the teams have played like that before and given the strength of schedules It wouldn't be totally shocking. Honestly the most unlikely thing in these projections is probably the M's winning today and sweeping the 2 game series against Houston.

I think this group is far more likely to go 5 and 11 then 11 and 5. Already choked once against the As.

Yeah probably.
The A's have been showing some life but the Rockies and Angels are horrid. Rockies have lost 16 out of their last 21 and The Angels have lost 12 out of their last 16.
If I had to bet I would say the M's probably go 9-7 to finish out.

Even if the Mariners got hot, the Asstros are playing good ball, winning games against good teams. 11-5 is not going to get it done. 13-3 would get them to .500 and maybe that would pull it off although they'd have to win both their games against the Asstros.

The reason this team isn't coasting towards the playoff is simple. They havent won ANY "must win" games this season. I am stating the bleeding obvious here but if they had won just 5 of those "must win" games that they blew they are 73-73 and right in the running.

I bet if we could be arsed, we'd be able to pick those 5 games that have cost us. I can think of 2 recently against the As for a start. I remember a big lead blown against San Diego as well. There's 3.

Tonight is another "must win" so we can probably call the result now. Love the analysis nonetheless Capt....

Astros have lost 3 out of their last 4. Tied 1-1 with the Phillies right now in the 7th. Must lose game for them as far as the M's are concerned.
