If the Marlins want Kirby instead of the prospects so be it. The numbers work Kirby for Lopez straight up given Kirby is valued at $25M

1. No way do the Marlins make that trade. One of the best shortstops in the game, at least two more years of club control, for two maybes? That one isn't happening unless their GM looks at that tool and says ohhhhhh well the tool says I should do it. We can hope...🤞And no way would they trade him for Kirby either, he's steadily regressed into a below-average pitcher. 1.4 bWAR against Lopez' 6.0 bWAR.

2. Dubon would not hit in Seattle. He's a .700 OPS player and the conversion from Houston/Atlanta to Seattle would be total ugh. How about Seiya Suzuki? I know, our stupid ban on Japanese players...

3. Hell yes on Iglesias, he's had a great and very underrated career and still has it at 36.

I really think we need to start with Teruaki Sato even though he's a lefty. Which goes back to our stupid ban which hopefully we'll lift for him.

1. That's why I said give them Kirby if they don't want prospects and Miller back in the rotation and Vargas back in the pen.
2. Dubon is just a defensive specialist and a bench bat. He doesn't need to hit. He could still put up 2+ WAR because park factors are included in his WAR. We joke about the Japanese ban but the real issue is Stanton is giving big multi year deals to guys in their 30s like Suzuki will get.
3. Yes, of course Morejon is the real prize but they won't even be in the mix for him for obvious reasons...Iglesias is a great consolation prize...

Would you trade a 6.0 bWAR shortstop who has been improving every season for a 1.4 bWAR pitcher who has been regressing every season?

Lopez is undervalued on MLBTV as we've discussed. The Red Sox apparently just hung up the phone when they heard the Marlins asking price.

You don't get Lopez for less than like a Felnin + Kirby pkg IMO.

Kwan is an OK player, but adding another left-handed OF who struggles vs lefties seems to make an existing problem worse. .609 OPS vs lefties in '26.

Dubon has too many .650 OPS years to make me think he's not going to crater in Seattle.

Iglesias would be fun but I don't see them competing $$ wise in that wheel house for a reliever.

I have to agree that the trade offer for Otto is on the light side. But I agree he should be a priority.

On the Utility player, the key requirement is the ability to play all over the infield with average MLB-level defense and not be a complete hole in the lineup. Ideally, you get something like an average bat as well, but the park factor here will put that at risk for almost any player in that category, so you have to at least get the defensive side right.

Anthony Volpe could be a name to keep in mind. He seems to be the odd man out for the Yankees.

Dubon is very good defensively. (see below) If he was very good defensively AND offensively he would not be a bench player now would he.

Kwan hit .353/.875 the second half

Who f-ing cares about his splits. Maybe trade them Yorger + Luke Stevenson and keep Arroyo to hit vs. Righties.

These plans should be what you would do within the constraints. There is room to give a 36 yo Iglesias more money.

Here's the thing, if a guy is so good he is expected to hit GREAT at T Mobile and if a LH hitter is going to have a .800+ OPS vs LHPs, guess what, either he NOT going to be available in trade OR he is going to be WAY too expensive in FA for us even bother to make an offer.

You have to target guys that have some sort of flaw and that's what I did.

Sure give the Marlins Kirby + any prospect not named Laz or Ace. Kirby + Farmelo should or Felin should to it. Hell give them both of those two, I do not care.

I like it. Give up what we have to to get Lopez. We have to get more right handed no matter what. Maybe go with Suzuki. My guess is that Jerry will sit there with his thumb up his ass and watch things develop rather than do what the contenders do and "take what you have and make what you want".
