Rob Manfred gets lit up but as a baseball enthusiast I agree 100% with with he's trying to get across and I love his passion.

I agree 100% with some of it. It was obviously off the top of his head, and he admitted he hasn't thought about the playoff format too long. Some of the other stuff regarding the media and player marketing he's obviously had on his mind for a while.

Regarding the layoff for the playoffs, you could potentially have a similar layoff in the current format if your team sweeps while the other team goes 7 games. So, dealing with layoffs has always been a part of the post season. Ask yourself how upset you would be if the Seattle Mariners had to contend with the terrible 6 day layoff associated with being the #1 seed in the American League. There's no question regarding the potential of a layoff to throw you off your rythm. On the other hand, if you did have an injured or slumping player, it could be just what the doctor ordered. And, if the goal is to win the World Series, you are getting a great jump on that. Automatic wins or stay in rythm?

Trevor acts like they have not thought about this proposal long and hard, while admitting that he hasn't thought about it himself. Now, sometimes the league's will compromise fan experience for the sake of money. They want fans to love the game, but they also want to squeeze out as much revenue as possible. For me, the NBA has somewhat crossed the line with their 82 game season, 16 playoff teams, and 7 game first rounds. MLB is still the most compelling league to follow IMO. I don't see that much risk in the proposed playoff format making baseball any less fun or interesting to follow. In fact, I dare say, it might be a good formula.

The pick your opponent aspect is newfangled, but I think it's great. How often do you look at the teams and feel like their records don't justify how good they are? Maybe they had a good first half, but they sucked in the second half. Or maybe they hit homers in a small park, and now you get to bring them to your big pitchers park for a 3 game set. How often are players asked directly who they would prefer to play and they don't provide an answer even though you know darn well they would prefer to play the sh!ttier team.

The proposed format will bring a few more teams in. Apparently the Mariners would have made it like 8 times during their drought. But, it's clearly harder to win 2/3 on the road than win the single game. This will make the Wild Card path more difficult unless you get WC1 where you get the home games, so there's now a major race to get WC1.

I'm not sure if I like the proposed format better than the status quo. Tough call. But, I don't think it's terrible, and I don't completely hate the pick your opponent thing either.

Regarding the media stuff, though, I think he's spot on. "Steph Curry makes a bounce pass" made me laugh pretty good, because it's so true. And, then if I see a good highlight on MLB I can't even send a link. Blackouts and non-availability of local games are also just dumb, bureaucratic BS, too. I totally agree with Trevor on those points.

I'm okay with color regulations on the cleats. I think it looks super cool in the NBA to have the bright color sneakers and what not. But, that would look ridiculous on the MLB field. In a way, Trevor is going hypocritical on this one, because going with crazy colored cleats on field would be a break from tradition, whereas his other points are more about keeping it more like it was when he was a kid.

The 3 batter rule I think is dumb.

Go Mariners!
