Second, just tossing in UDFA and counting them as contributors is wishful

Hawks have had rosters where I believe like a third of it were UDFAs.

Also, one of the UDFAs is a first team all american DT that had 10.5 sacks.

Thats great but I don't get this obsession with needing 25 DTs. I count 7 with the UDFA. How many DTs do we need??? Last season we had FOUR. Why do we need more than 7 all of a sudden???

If they're going back to a 4-3 front they might need more than four. But numbers isn't the problem. The problem is that Al Woods is the most talented of the bunch.

You have no clue if 36 yo Al Woods is better than all SIX of the guys we added since the SB.

Well just from my eyes, there's only one thing Big Al is good at - and oddly enough, i do think he was still pretty good at it last year - and that is being an immovable tree stump that you cant run through or push back. trouble was, our run D still sucked even with him in on a lot of downs. i still think he would be part of the solution, not the problem. problem was not enough around him - no penetration, and certainly no one else able to hold their ground. Adding a penetrator such as Jones and/or Young who can hopefully hold his ground alongside Big Al in the middle and we should be much better at freeing up the LBs to fill the lanes rather than making the tackle after the backs have already gone through them. just crossing my fingers that John knows Al will come back for another go rather than hang em up, as he easily could at his age.
