Yeah, and it seems it was a pretty team friendly deal. This could end up being the same, but I am very curious how much Brooks is even going to be able to play.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:31 pmDidn't they do the same thing with Penny? Then they re-signed him to a one year deal anyway.

He probably wont do anything to shortcut the healing process but wont want to miss too much of the season as it will be a prove-it contract year.Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:52 pmYeah, and it seems it was a pretty team friendly deal. Could of had our Center of the future in Ruiz. You had to know Saints were gonna take a OL. Nothing really spectacular in the back end of that 1st round. Didn't need a WR either.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 11:27 amAnother late first round pick that didn't pan out.

None of this means what you all seem to think it means. They're not releasing him (not saying they can't later), there is no cap savings, it doesn't even mean they're GOING to get rid of him. The market for ILBs has changed in recent years, and the 5th year option would pay him much more - maybe double - what he'd get on the open market. I think it's like $12M guaranteed. Coming off a serious injury, they will want to see how he recovers before making a commitment, and could very well re-sign him for a more reasonable contract.
Green Bay just did this with Jordan Love - decline 5th year option, then negotiate extension.

Re: No option for Brooks
Brooks is a good player, just not real good. No where close to worth 12 million dollars. He is too limited as a player for that amount. Issues in coverage and not a good pass rusher either. He is a very, very good tackler. A good tackler isn't worth 12 million. Get a a cheaper ILB and spend that 12 million on the Dline. Not a limited ILB.

Funny man.
Brooks makes Bobby look like Sherman in coverage. That’s how bad Brooks is in coverage.
