I think Fant is better than anyone we had at RT last year, and expecting anything out of Lucas is not a great idea. When is the last time he wasn’t hurt?

That doesnt sound very encouraging terms of Lucas, Fant is a journeyman
Fant had 915 snaps 3 penalties, 3 sacks allowed and a 63.5 PFF rating

Lucus only had 273 snaps 0 penalties and 2 sacks allowed and a 53.1 PFF rating

I will take Fant all day every day.
Lucas was playing hurt last year though. In his rookie season he put up a 68.5 on 975 snaps.
Still 5 PFF points is within the margin of error. I am sure all those that rip PFF will agree.

Giving Smith a new contract could create more cap space
Don't need more space. Roster is set.
Not sure its actually set

It seems odd they didn't have Lucas on the initial PUP list because he certainly won't be ready to go any time soon.
He is...seems lot of excitement over Cross
Which mean that it certainly appears as though the team has put no shortage of effort in working to shore up a single position, right tackle. What exactly this means for 2022 third round pick Abe Lucas, who remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list, is uncertain, but it certainly doesn’t give the impression that the team is banking on a whole lot from him, either now or into the future.

JS restructures DK's contract creating more cap space
how much did this maneuver create? With the restructure, Seattle created $9.5 million in cap space. After the move, Seattle has approximately $13.2 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap. Does this move predict a possible free agent signing for Seattle? It is very possible. Yesterday we discussed some possible offensive tackle options Seattle may be interested in with the recent injury to George Fant. Seattle could also be interested in beefing up the offensive line at the guard position after both Anthony Bradford and Laken Tomlinson struggled mightily in the first half of last Sunday’s victory against the Denver Broncos.

Or perhaps Seattle could be looking to make an in-season extension of one of their many young stars. Jerome Baker, Tyrel Dodson, Connor Williams, Tre Brown, among others are all veterans set to hit free agency next Spring. Geno Smith has already reached out about an extension. Other young studs like Riq Woolen and Boye Mafe will also be eligible for extensions, however that will be after this season ends. John Schneider could even be saving this money for later in the season if Seattle were on the brink of legitimate contention and would be looking for another in-season trade.
Remember when they replaced the cap space expert, wonder if this might be a function of that
