I was wondering if holding the Panthers to 40 net yards passing was a franchise record. Turns out it was the 5th best ever. Here's a list of all games the Hawks have held (or in some cases "held" because the other team just ran on them) opponents to under 50 net yards passing:
1978 vs. Jets 25 (W 17-0)
1978 vs. Chiefs 44 (W 23-19)
1979 vs. Chiefs 15 (L 6-24)
1982 vs. Raiders 41 (L 23-28)
1988 vs. Patriots 44 (L 7-13)
1997 vs. Colts 27 (W 31-3)
1998 vs. Eagles 12 (W 38-0)
2012 vs. Vikings 44 (W 30-20)
2015 vs. Bears 48 (W 26-0)
2025 vs. Panthers 40 (W 27-10)
Our worst was minus-30 against the Rams in the infamous minus-7 yard game in 1979 (lost 24-0). We also had a 2 yard passing game against the Raiders in 1983...and won 38-36 (8 Raider turnovers).

The fact that we lost three of those games says a lot about the way the game of football was played in those days!

SC doesn't produce great QB's. What was confusing about that.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 5:53 pmCarson Palmer is 46 yo. Sanchez is 39 yo. WTF do they have to do with Darnold other than going to the same school DECADES ago? It like saying CJ Stroud couldn't be good because he went to Ohio St. Makes no sense.HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 4:42 amNovel thought right. Must be these SC QB's. Seriously when was the last great one. Caleb don't count since he transferred. Sanchez for a minute, I'm guessing Carson. He's not mobile. He's either scared or something. Does not have great mental makeup for sure. Really wish they'd find somebody else for next year. Here's a thought. I hear Burrow is potentially looking for a new hope. We definitely got the cap space but don't know if we got the draft capital. Seriously I don't think I could stomach another season of Darnold. Like Sherman says "RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!"auroraave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 3:07 am
I saw far too many plays where it was clear Carolina knew exactly what was coming and they were three steps ahead of Seattle - and it was happening consistantly. No pass plays were fooling them. Something is tipping off defenses because they know exctly what seattle is running - probably that 'play action" shit roll out to the left for another 23 yard loss or tipped pass. I don't ever want to see that play run again it is absolute fucking dog shit.
I am seriously interested in what Lock can do. Darnold is going to cost us a playoff game - you can bank on that. I swear half his problems would be solved if he would just run the goddam ball.

Palmer and Sanchez played for Carroll. Sam Darnold played for Clay Helton. Calab Williams played for Lincoln Riley. The only thing those coaches and their offenses had in common were the jerseys. I've always been baffled by those types of comparisons. I think in the old days, recruits might gravitate to a place based on things like that. USC would get backs because they sent backs to the Pros, the Huskies always seemed to be able to place TEs in the Pros, things like that. But now a days? The Huskies played for a National Championship on year running Ryan Grubb's offense and then returned only the Punter and Kicker from the team prior, and ran a completely different offense. It would be like comparing Penix and Williams and calling them Husky QBs. The only similarity is the uniform.
The Ohio State QB thing was from way back, and it was just as much an indication of the style of offense played in the Big Ten as it was Ohio State. Michigan didn't exactly pump out QBs either, I mean, Brady didn't even start every game his Senior year.
