I posted the rule. It says impeding the process of the catch.
In the NFL, pass interference (PI) is a foul when a player makes significant contact with an eligible receiver (or vice versa) beyond one yard past the line of scrimmage, hindering their opportunity to catch a forward pass. It can be called on both offense (OPI) and defense (DPI), involving actions like pushing, holding, or grabbing, but generally not when both players are making a legitimate play on the ball. DPI results in an automatic first down and a spot foul (ball placed at the foul), while OPI results in a loss of yards and loss of down, making DPI a much more impactful penalty.
If not allowing a Receiver to raise his arm to make the catch isn't significant, then there are about seven hundred penalties this year that need to be over turned. That was a foul, it's been called that way for almost a decade. They missed it, big deal....doesn't mean they didn't miss it.

Yes, and it's pretty sad when a defender who is in the back pocket of a receiver who couldn't get open can't even brush a guy's arm lest it be viewed as impeding his opportunity to catch a pass. You say Atwell had no chance at raising his arm, that's where we disagree. Pua would have figured out a way to catch that ball. Atwell was a pussy and you want the officials to reward that. I'm fine with it being considered as pass interference, I already said technically you could be right. Doesn't mean it's not pussy and ticky-tack.

Now post the rule on offensive PI.
If you want to go by the exact letter of the rules. Atwell pushed off at least to the same degree that he was impeded. Its judgment call. You see impediment. I see hand fighting initiated by the receiver. If Atwell would have reached up for the ball instead of reaching back for the defender no contact would have ever occurred.

I saw Atwell in front and the defender grab him during the hand fighting, then never release. Atwell is in front of the defender. If that is OPI, then JSN has zero catches this year!Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 8:26 pmNow post the rule on offensive PI.

It would be bad. We know that. The last home game Pete coached we got rolled by the Mason Rudolph Steelers. I was there.
The stadium went wild with terrible towels like a Pittsburg home game. I truly believe that's when Jody said "enough".
MM changed the trajectory for the good. That's not even debatable. I'm grateful for MM and JS for hiring him.
I still reserve the right to whine about the offense whenever I want. lol

I know I'm kicking a dead horse, but I'm watching this play again. Does Atwell NOT GET BOTH HANDS ON THE BALL on this catch attempt? You say he never had a chance to lift his left arm to catch the ball because it was being pinned/grabbed/forced down, but the ball hit both of his hands, not just his right one. How does he not lift his left arm, to catch the ball, when the ball hits his left hand? Also, about a second before the ball arrives, Atwell clearly shoves Allford off right on his left shoulder pad. If anything it was a more blatant OPI than the other way around. Atwell DID GET HIS LEFT ARM UP AND LEFT HAND ON THE BALL, he just wasn't strong enough to make the catch. Atwell didn't even complain or go after the officials about the call. I don't even think he believed it was P.I.XpertDBA wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 8:23 pmYes, and it's pretty sad when a defender who is in the back pocket of a receiver who couldn't get open can't even brush a guy's arm lest it be viewed as impeding his opportunity to catch a pass.
