Guess who's making an impression on their new teammates
Zach Berman of The Athletic (subscription required) recently posted, "The player I’ve heard the most praise for this spring? Riq Woolen. Might be some novelty bias because it’s their first time seeing him, but he’s showing up in this session, too. Remained tight in coverage vs. DeVonta Smith. Reminds me of the way Zack Baun (and) Isaiah Rodgers were received two years ago. They could tell right away

Too bad he needed a wake up call to get his shit together. I'm not going to worry too much about losing a guy that did as many boneheaded things during a football game as Riq did. Good on him if he has turned over a new leaf, but his football IQ was lower than low, his effort wasn't always there, and he was beaten more often than I like for a guy that is supposed to be a shut down corner and doesn't really do much else.

I guess the signed the shitty tackle because Jones needs to get himself ready to practice per MM. Sounds like he is out of shape.

“Bobby’s a good tackle,” Macdonald said. “We need a third tackle. And Josh hasn’t practiced yet, so Josh needs to practice to compete with Bobby. Right now Bobby’s practicing.”

Charbonnet was seen Tuesday doing some running, but there’s a big difference in doing some conditioning and suiting up in an NFL game and taking the pounding that a running back does.

Macdonald did not offer a timetable for Charbonnet when asked Wednesday.

“Doing a great job,” Macdonald said. “I know he has high expectations for himself. Look forward to seeing where it ends up.”

Asked if there’s a chance he could be back for the start of the season, Macdonald said “everything’s possible, yeah.” That answer more accurately be read as Macdonald seeing no reason to rule anything out at this point

And I seem to be mistaken about Wilson, terms of how significant an addition he was. Holani seems to be the guy they would be relying on early on
Holani and Price have typically worked with the first unit — usually in that order — with Wilson working with the backups. Second-year tailback Jacardia Wright has also gotten snaps with the backups as has Velus Jones Jr., who is listed as a receiver but can play both spots.

Price, as the 32nd overall pick, is obviously expected to have a big role in the offense this fall, particularly on first and second downs. Holani may be best-suited to the third-down role. Wilson signed a one-year deal that includes only $550,000, so while the team is obviously hopeful he’ll have a role this season he’s also going to have to earn it.
