I get the impression that's how the wealthier owners beat the cap. Lots of guaranteed money and willingness (and ability) to eat contracts once cap hits become untenable and there is no dead cap on the books. That might not be totally accurate but if you look at the way Garrett's contract is structured his cap hits in the first 3 years are relatively small and the dead cap is gone after 2 seasons.
There's also things like stadium improvements/upgrades and how those get funded.

Re: Poll: new owner preference
Yeah, Arte Moreno has a reputation for giving some large contracts but I believe he's really considered a pretty cheap owner. He doesn't bother investing in the rest of the organization. He's a fanboy. Stanton has a reputation for being cheap but on the other hand I think they have done a good job of building an organization which does take investment. They all are going to make money. Nobody is just spending their money on a team for the hell of it these days. A deeper pocketed mariners owner might be willing to invest at a higher rate but I'm not sure that's a given.

The Seahawks have some first rate facilities. A training facility on lake Washington? lol. Remember when they would train in Cheney, times have changed. That was a function of Allen's wealth and desire to be first cabin
