The world record for the Mile was broken recently by Josh Kerr from the UK with a time of 3:42.66. The mind blowing thing is that is the equivalent of running 44 consecutive 40 yard dashes at 5.06 seconds each.
To put that into perspective. Tom Brady ran a 5.28 40 at the combine which means if he was able to sprint full speed for a mile he would still finish 10 seconds behind Kerr. Philip Rivers, Eli Manning and Matt Ryan were all slower than a 5.06 as well. Of course the majority of Offensive linemen and D-tackles are over 5 seconds, and there was even a tight end who ran a 5.19 in 2023 and still got drafted.
I haven't ran a 40 since high school when I was like a 4.7. I guarantee you I'd be well over 5 today
It's just mind boggling how fast a 3:42 mile is.
