What makes the transaction particularly unique is where the money goes. Under the terms of Allen’s will, proceeds from the sale are to be donated to charity, with the majority directed to Allen Family Philanthropies, a Seattle-based nonprofit that invests in arts and culture, youth leadership, and environmental and bioscience research.
