Post Mortem: Sea v KC & The Sunshine Band
I'm your boogie man. That's what I am. If you know that one - you'll be humming that one all day.
Back to our regularly scheduled program. I've been off grid in Mammoth/Yosemite/Bodie and it was f'n spectacular. Donn - google "ghost town of Bodie" CA. You'll enjoy it. Incredible story.
There was a game at The Lumen last night. Oh, and what a game it was.
Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Swifties marched confidently into Seattle Sunday night and were promptly punched in the mouth. Haven't seen bullying like that since Club Foot Charlie in 6th grade. By the third quarter no one on KC looked like they wanted to be in The Jet City anymore - there was the glorious look of defeat, PTSD, and Walker watching WIlson punish the KC defense for 100 yards - and his own streak of 100 yard game dominance - OVER. The Boogie Men of Seattle's Defense slammed that door shut like an Angry Karen does to Trick or Treaters.
Seattle bullied KC and it was all so necessary. Finally, a much-needed win, a statement win, perhaps Seattle's little love note to the league "hey, we're back, did you miss us? Here's some ice and Kleenex for your bruises and tears, bitches!" We back!
I am handing a game ball to Brian Fleury. I thought he called a great game. Watching the oline pushing KC around in the 4th quarter for first downs, makes all the sacrificed run plays in the first half make sense. It's exciting to think what this offense will look like when RB's 1 @ 2 return, because we are in desperate need of some speed. I understand Holani on the zone reads, but not on the toss sweeps.
The Darnold. Oh, Sam. Sam, Sam, Sam. Why doth thou hate us so? The int. Really? REALLY? Honestly, a TD there probably closes the door on the Chiefs will, leading to a Seattle blowout. But no. Gitta let 'em hang around with an early Christmas gift of fuckery. You scrambled, you threw beautiful deep balls to JSN, the oline protected you well, Fleury called a strong game, but you still insisted on leaving one monster turd on the field. 20/28/257 is a solid day. Why you gotta do us like that with that brutal pick? Any time I see The Darnold scrambling, good things tend to happen - he is less hesitant, more dialed in. Two huge scrambles for first downs almost make me forget that pick. Almost. Okay, not really. That was some serious dipshittery.
Seattle was 11/16 on Third down. That is truly remarkable. KC was 3/11. They were 2/2 on fourth down though. KC had a paltry 213 yards of offense. Probably been a while since that happened. Rumors are swirling that Taylor Swift wrote a song at halftime called "What the Fuck is Happening?" Looking forward to that one.
Really, the stats were one sided. The score was not indicative of how one-sided this game was. If we score a TD going into the half, we're looking at 27-3 - at least - which feels more appropriate. I guess the takeaway is we survived a huge Darnold int.
JSN did JSN things. We take for granted his production; it looks so effortless. 9 catches for 150. Dude is on a roll. Gitta give a game ball to Emmanuel Wilson for an impressive 100 yards - often punishing yards - and a huge catch for a first down. Kenneth who?
Really the story is the defense who pressured and bullied Mahomes all day - I was not expecting that. I thought he would be more elusive, but Nick and the gang had no trouble running him down all game. He truly looked like he did not want to be there anymore. Bad day for him and Reid. Even worse for Walker who's lack of a contract extension was just justified in front of the entire City of Seattle. Let the pathetic lamentations end now.
This felt like last year, when Seattle started putting it together and went on that spectacular run. JS and the coaches keeping the ship afloat while reinforcements land, no splash moves leveraging the future (yet), and we sit at 4-3, the division still in reach. A loss here would possibly be too demoralizing to overcome, but instead, we went the other way - a huge win - despite some sloppy play at times. I think our oline just got flagged for another cringeworthy offsides. WTF.
Big win. Big game by Fleury. I am probably the only one on here who likes Fleury - I see a huge upside to him, especially when we get healthy. He's learning to call the games, adjust, adapt, hold the fort until the running game returns. He's going to keep then playbook - force the offense to execute. There is a lot of creativity in his play designs. 7 games in and I am seeing improvements. As long as we keep the Holani toss sweep out of the playbook, I believe it's called "turtle toss right" I think we'll be okay. Fun fact: Despite the depleted RB room - Seattle rushed for 153 yards.
Next up: another prime-time game - this time the feisty Bears come to town for a Monday Night brawl. After this KC win, I like our chances, it feels like we are leaning into what we were, what we can be again. Let's hope Charbs makes his debut. He and Wilson will make a nice 1-2 punch until Price returns.
Feels like we're moving in the right direction.
Go hawks...

When I see Sam scramble, it appears to me as though he hesitates just a bit too long before deciding to take off. I think he needs to develop some more confidence in that category and be a touch more decisive. If the field is open, go for it. Just remember to protect the ball (and yourself).auroraave wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2026 2:26 pmThe Darnold. Oh, Sam. Sam, Sam, Sam. Why doth thou hate us so? The int. Really? REALLY? Of course, easy for me to say from the comfort of the couch.

I think you want him to extend plays but the ultimate objective is completing a pass. And that goes beyond just Darnolds ego. That's the explosive aspect. It's why the pass has become so dominant. Darnold needs to be careful but MM doesn't want him taking off running all the time either. He's there to chuck the ball. Darnold has always pushed the envelope. But that's the importance of an explosive play, how valuable it is. Look at the passes Darnold did complete, how many were tightly contested? The TD to JSN, that was right on the money with a defender draped all over him. Its not running around waving your arms I'm open. It's firing it into tightly contested areas, particularly the end zonedouche wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2026 2:58 pmWhen I see Sam scramble, it appears to me as though he hesitates just a bit too long before deciding to take off. BTW, JSN took responsibility for that interception

I figured that the only way we were going to beat the Chefs was in a down-to-the-wire game like the ones against the Hams last year. Mahomes being subjected to the worst game of his NFL career was not on the table. You kept waiting for the Chefs to finally start putting together long drives and it got so bad for them that even in garbage time they went four-and-out with Mr. Swift on fourth down rumbling three yards then falling on his face yelling "Don't hurt me!"
Since Mahomes doesn't seem to be doing State Farm commericals any more, maybe he can supplement his income by doing a commercial for Arrowhead Red Shampoo. The commercial starts with a quick montage of Mahomes getting his head farted on repeatedly by the Seahawks followed by people avoiding Mahomes in public, in the huddle, and in his home where his wife says, "Honey, it's your hair, it smells like Seahawk fart". Cut to voiceover describing Arrowhead Red Shampoo with scientists in a lab wearing hazmat suits with an osprey wearing a little Seahawk hat off to the side eating a burrito. Cut back to Mahomes at home hosting a Super Bowl party and as they show the Seahawks coming out of the tunnel Mahomes says "Glad I'm not there" and everyone laughs.

Sam absolutely should run more. I've been saying it all along. I don't get the impression he likes it though.
The KC defense isn't as good as some of the other defenses we've faced.
Does Drake Thomas get his job back when he's healthy?

If you could get AI to make this clip it would absolutely go viral. Hugh Millen felt that Shaheed fucked up massively on that play, though he didn't absolve Darnold of some blame for it.

Yeah, it's not good to throw an interception. I'm sure Darnold was kicking himself. But the receivers running into each other had to be about as bone head a move I've seen on a football field. Its beyond me how it seems overlooked. They get a pass for fucking up
Anyway, I'm wondering about the narrative of the game. For all the attention the Seahawks defense is getting could the narrative be more how over hyped the Chiefs have been? They really had a cupcake schedule. The Walker narrative was out of control, MVP? please. He's a good RB but he's not Barry Sanders. The Chiefs lack receivers.
Not to take anything away from the seahawks defense but shut down Walker and that's it. You look at who they have to face, Denver, NE. Falcons, 49ers, Rams. Honestly I'm watching that if I'm them wondering where's the hard part? I could see Bears being a tougher opponent.
