This is possibly stupid to say, but I can't help but be giddy about Riley Mills and Tory Horton coming on next season without having to draft
them again...
It's not stupid at all. The last few drafts have been homeruns....besides the O Line. And Zabel sort of quashed that issue. I expect us to bolster the O Line some more, and come out ready to defend the crown. I am curious who the OC is going to be though. There was some talk on the NFL Network last night about the excitement in Vegas...for Kubiak to work his magic on the O Line and take Mendoza, Jeanty and Brock Bowers and turn them into an exciting offensive team. Detroit went from everyone's darling to out of the playoffs without their play caller, and the Bears were a bounce or two from the NFCCG when they added him. I imagine we are going to be reading some of that in comparison.
Yeah, it's the Kubiak -.Mendoza connection. But it's going to take time and patience. People make Brady out as an idiot these days but one has to believe he understands that. There's all the stories out now about Darnold, the greatest reclamation project in NFL history. Due to the draft process, the best qbs tend to land with the poorest run teams. The raiders need to alter that narrative. They have to build system of support and continuity for Mendoza. I don't know shit about football but I know that much, Tom Brady has to grasp it doesn't he?
There's no guarantee Mendoza pans out - he could be the next Darnold - dude who gets killed on terrible teams/franchises. What the Raiders now have is marketability. Remember - this is a product - nothing more - and the cover of the game day programs will be splashy with Mendoza and Kubiak and that offensive potential - the exact same thing CBS will use to promote their games to draw eyes. They are still likely to suck - the stink of that franchise may be hard to shake. Is Geno still on the roster? That could be a disaster with his shitty attitude. The upside for them is that division is nothing special, really. The Raiders should thug Obama's "Hope" meme - using kubiak or mendoza's image - or Davis's haircut - that'd be hilarious!

Okay, I tried it on AI - this is what came up - now imagine it without Obama's image and just the haircut -

The deal is and Michael can correct me if he wants but I think this is a significant event terms of qb development. Darnold winning the SB in his first season with the seahawks after his history of being cast off. With the value of the position, nobody is going to want to be the next Vikings or Jets. That's the effect it's going to have on marketing a product, avoiding that. And ground zero is going to be the raiders with Mendoza and kubiak. That's why they hired kubiak, to try and prevent that happening to them

Doesn't the Darnold thing just turn everything on its head? I mean, here's a team that took on a 'castoff', worked with him, put a team around him, and won a Super Bowl.

But you know that right now some chuckle head GMs and football execs somewhere are salivating over the next big franchise QB. Sure, the position is important, but how many busts have we seen at that position? And how many of these 'franchise savior QBs' end up being thrown into the fire and simply fizzle out because they were put in a no-win situation?

JS saw the Ravens beat the fuck out of our offense and thought I want MM to be our HC. He saw Darnold end our season with a clutch TD pass and thought I want SD to be our QB. He made both happen and the rest is history.

I'm just understanding the deal with Crosby. He's pissed they put him on IR when he feels he was healthy, the reason being to tank for the number one pick. I mean to keep this raiders specific. Look at the history of qbs like darnold, or Geno for that matter, Baker Mayfield. Simply put the issue is churning through coaches after you have drafted them. The lack of continuity when you are trying to develop a qb. So the raiders succeeded in landing a possible franchise qb at the cost of their franchise edge rusher. They've also been through what, five HCs in the last six years? It's like screaming at the screen at a slasher movie, turn around! They have to understand at this point they can't continue to operate like that. I think it puts kubiak in a strong position. They brought on the pro from Dover. He's explained to them the process for developing Mendoza. They have to sit still and go along with it don't they? By the way they fired the coaching staff including Brennan Carroll

It's the Raiders. The definition of dysfunctional.

Imagine DK Metcalf wanting out - then losing to Seattle in epic fashion - then watching his former team make the most improbable run to win it all - while getting suspended down the stretch for his usual ill-timed idiotic behavior he was known for - which was a huge reason why no one lamented him leaving in the first place.

Also, see Geno Smith - about to be out of a job after one dismal season. Seems pretty obvious that the grass is never greener in the f'n DESERT.

Next up: how to improve the offense. DO they keep Rasheed and find more ways to use him? Does the new OC have play call skills? Do we solve the RG position? Do we retain Walker? I would not be surprised either way - big contracts for RB's have been trending down for a while - be hilarious if the Jets backed up the Brinks truck for him - after trading away Breece Hall - that would be the most Jets move of all time.

RW comes off the books for Denver finally. It is impressive what Payton has accomplished with RW being the highest paid player for him so far.
