I'll admit to optimism that the offense should be better. Emphasis on should because there are too many variables that we just don't know:
1) will Geno be as good or better, or will he regress?
2) will everybody stay healthy?
3) will the new O-Linemen be better than last year's turnstiles?
4) are the rookies as good as we hope?

We don't know the answer to these. One injury could derail the entire thing. One horrible O-lineman could shut down drives and/or result in turnovers. If somebody has an off year, or gets injured on the first play like Adams last year, the entire game plan gets fucked up.

But if all things are equal, the offense SHOULD be better than last year.

The Waldron hate is pretty ridiculous. The offense wasn't perfect by any means, but it was sure as hell better than previous years, and the screen game when he was with the Rams was good, so it's not like he can't figure it out. The problem is/was elsewhere.

Waldron wasn't very good in 2021 but he was a rookie. He was better last season. If he has another similar year of improvement we should be in business with the significant key upgrades in the draft which specifically address the second biggest issue........the 3rd down fails.

I think the run game is more likely to improve than the pass game.

We all know that Carroll likes to run the ball. That said, if the run game improves, shouldn't that help the passing game?

1) I hope Geno is just as good, but I have my doubts. I think the league underestimated us a bit last year based on the fact that Geno hadn't played in some time, and wasn't very good when he did. We got figured out a bit towards the end of the year. That running joke of "is anyone ever going to defend the bootleg rollout pass to the TE" turned into that play getting us in big trouble because the DE stayed home. Let's hope they have some things up their sleeves.

2) Health is always an X factor, so if we have key injuries, in the salary cap era? Not much you can do there.

3) I don't think we can get much worse than we were on the interior of the O Line last year, so my gut says we will be better.

4) I feel a lot like I did last year with this rookie class. I am stoked to see them help out.

I think every OC has their own set of issues. BUT, is it a big coincidence that Waldron looked a lot better last year and Hackett looked a lot worse? The Broncos HAD to go out and get Sean Payton. I am not sure there is really anyone else that has a shot to get through to Wilson right now. Maybe I am wrong, maybe the embarrassment of last year was enough to check him on his own. But I don't think he was kicking his support staff out of the building. That was all Payton.

Excited to have gotten JSN & Charbonnet - Watched all the UCLA games and I think Z/C got very little love in the draft- This offense if they stay healthy and Geno does not do his usual 2nd half collapse could be scary good.

I still maintain that it was less about figuring out Geno and more about losing Goodwin. The 4th and 5th WRs were absolutely terrible, and when they had to bump up to #3, the whole thing was jacked up. JSN should fix that immediately, and if Eskridge manages to contribute...

knock on wood. I think so, too... just never know until they take the field. Haynes was OK-ish when he was healthy.

That's an interesting point. Could it be that RW was the cause of all the issues?? If so, he got a couple OCs fired that maybe didn't suck as bad as we all thought.

exactly - that is a big part of the offense - the coordinator learning and growing - what is waldron's ceiling? Also, imagine having to be RW's coordinator - what was that like? Now that we know what we know about Wilson's diva BS - waldron looks even better. Imagine being a freshman OC and having to deal with that ego! Geno was a point guard out there - distributing the ball while wilson was three and out and then street ball. with geno the offense looks organized and with purpose. How much did we bitch and moan about OC's under wilson - only to churn through them - because of wilson - with no difference? Wilson was holding back the offense. jesus all those three and outs and breaking the huddle with 2.5 seconds on the clock - none of that is a problem anymore. weird! Yeah, I tend to think this offense is still growing and with the new weapons to stress opposing defenses, this unit should be even better - especially with basic efficiency and just moving the chains - a huge problem under cringeruss.

I'll buy into that when i see them successfully execute a screen pass with McIntosh (or someone else) ripping off a big gain. Hope you're right and Waldron is learning new things and expanding the playbook. I'm not so high on Geno given that he had the 2nd highest number of turnover-worthy plays last year.
