Saw that. Thank God. I would be surprised if he plays Sunday though....
yeah probably not, and would be surprised if he plays more than a nominal amount of reps week 2, even if he's healthy.
It's super important that DBs know what everybody is supposed to do. WR routes these days are complicated, meaning there are a lot of switches on coverage (like Woolen has outside coverage, Bryant inside, the WRs line up bunched, Woolen takes the first guy to go outside, Bryant has to take the other guy). When done correctly, it looks seamless and simple to the casual viewer, but if one guy misses the read, everybody notices.
Point being, going to walkthroughs is not the same as full-speed reps, and with no preseason and very limited practice, they'd probably want to let him get his feet wet a bit before throwing him into the deep end.
Yeah, Spoon is a bit of a free spirit player, and I don't think Pete wants to take this away from him either. And I share those similar concerns and how effective he will be playing within the framework of his coverage responsibilities on this level while still attacking downhill like he did at Illinois. It will be interesting to see how well he can sort out a WR, TE, and RB running routes in his space, or how he does when the offense presents high/low routes in his space while playing a true CB role. So to me, it likely makes best sense for him to get his feet wet at the nickel position this way his best tools are still on the field.
