PFF had Jones ranked 30th coming into the season.
30. Ernest Jones, Los Angeles Rams
Jones led all linebackers in quarterback pressures (37) last season and ranked seventh at the position with an 86.2 PFF run-defense grade. His 57.5 PFF coverage grade highlights his limitations, which is why he’s not higher on this list, but he is a very good run defender
Wagner 20th
20. Bobby Wagner, Washington Commanders
Wagner is about to turn 34 and has just one season with a PFF coverage grade above 70.0 since 2018, but he remains one of the best run defenders in football. He has earned 90.0-plus PFF run-defense grades in three of the past four seasons — and six of the past eight.

Well, Wagner is getting $6.5m vs $2m for Jones this year. I assume if they want to keep him though it will cost significantly more.

Yeah , I don't know if they should have kept him, just kinda funny the talk about him being passe. It wasn't about run defense anymore, it's pass coverage. So here we are giving up a fourth to get a guy that can defend the run, go figure

Seattle's biggest problem on defense is run defense - particularly glaring on the second level. The LB room is the weakest part of the defense by a mile. Baker is a HUGE liability in run coverage - Jones is known for being a physical, down hill baller with excellent gap coverage. This isa definite upgrade at the position. Cutting and pasting PFF stats is silly and tells you nothing - they played on different teams in different systems against different offenses running different plays in different situations. Go. Watch. Tape. I will never understand people who relentlessly cut and paste without EVER adding context. Go learn the game, watch tape, glean your own opinion - stop cutting and pasting other people's opinions and meaningless stats and then hiding behind them. Jesus Christ I don't understand that mentality that at all.

This is a good move - if you understand football on any level.

It is a good move in terms of upgrading the roster. But it took a fourth round pick to do it. With this and the Robertson trade he's seems to be commiting to this season, hopefully it works. Can they measure up to the elites

This is going to be like the Adams and Williams trades where JS ends up having to overpay to keep the guy he already overpaid for in terms of trade value. Just seems to be his MO.

Well, according to Greg Bell of KJR, it doesn't matter that they gave up a higher draft pick than they probably needed to because they are likely to get 2 or 3 compensatory picks in next year's draft. :?

Clearer now why they did it.

LOL, and after watching video of him blowing up the Seahawks and other teams when he was with the Rams, I'm all in. Our run D has been muy fugly for the most part. Great upgrade!

I watched his highlights :| I was not impressed. I hope this works out, but my initial reaction is that it was an over-reach. He was traded for a 6th before the season started. I am not sure there was a hot market for him.
