I'm not going to try and convince you. But Reed punches up into the air with his left hand as he's engaged.
What's a Rip Move?
Re: What's a Rip Move?
OK, so upon further review, it's not a hold?

Looks like a hold to me.

Re: What's a Rip Move?
I also did the reading and watched several of the example videos. But back to my original assertion has anyone ever heard of a commentator on the broadcast going, "Sorry Troy, but the D-End performed a rip move, therefor it is not a hold"?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 4:53 pmYeah, like i said, I don't understand it. You dug into it a lot more than me, thanks
It was a hold, the deal is they get to hold under certain conditionswhen I see an O-lineman have a defender around the neck, they usually call holding. Therefore, I still
say this was a hold. I've seen others say if it wasn't a hold, it was hands to the face

But, didn't the RIP move fail because the LT was holding onto his jersey?

Honestly, looking around, I can't find any mention of it, other than a thing explaining what a rip move is. No questioning the call, complaining. Doesn't seem to be controversial, leads me to believe it's considered correct

Re: What's a Rip Move?
I have seen plenty of mentions of it should have been a hold or a hands to the face. Not much on it's fine because it was a RIP move. Seems pretty stupid actually. If anyone watching that play can say that it isn't flagged for holding the majority of the time they are kidding themselves. That call, and the bullshit hold on Pharoh Brown stick out to me. If those two calls benefitted the KC Chiefs? It would be all over social media right now. I swear to God we are the only team in America that gets homered in our own stadium. And to top it off? We now have to worry about the visiting team having more fans.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 10:03 amHonestly, looking around, I can't find any mention of it, other than a thing explaining what a rip move is. I'm not talking about forums, I'm talking about people with a connection to the sport. Give me some links to reliable comments, I'd be interested
That's the extent to what I found

Re: What's a Rip Move?
So if the pass-rusher moves his inside arm in an upward motion to try to break free of a block, then it's okay for the offensive lineman to grab and hold onto him or his jersey? If that is correct, what is the reasoning behind this rule?

Re: What's a Rip Move?
I would guess because they feel allowing the defensive player to use his arm to break free is an unfair advantageSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:24 pmSo if the pass-rusher moves his inside arm in an upward motion to try to break free of a block, then it's okay for the offensive lineman to grab and hold onto him or his jersey?
