Ken Norton and Clint Hurtt...and wasn't Richard fired too? I know he got another job, but I feel like they replaced him with Norton and then Richard went to Dallas?

Jeremy Bates, Daryle Bevel, Schotty and Waldren. As I have said before, I don't want a defensive minded HC anymore, because I just don't think you get the right OC and the HC won't get out of the way. Jeremy Bevelheimer is what I have always called Waldren. He is the same fucking yes man that the rest were. Bates got fired because he refused to conform, Bevel stuck around forever because he was a lap dog. Schotty was let go for the same reason Bates was, he pushed back. The bottom line though? They all called games the way Pete wanted, until Pete needed a scapegoat. The difference is Bates and Schotty pushed back...so their tenure was shorter.

Someone posted this on field gulls, and it blew my mind.

Um, he's always been a defensive-minded coach. And how is he aggressive? Carroll doesn't play to win, he plays not to lose. Hardly aggressive.

I understand what PC brought to the organization, and for that we are grateful. But his coaching became very suspect the last few years. And that wasn't due to his aggressive offensive-minded approach.

He can be aggressive at times, but it usually seems to be the wrong time. That said, if I had to choose if he was conservative or aggressive, or which one best describes? You are correct, it's not aggressive. The entire love affair he has with the statement "you can't win until the fourth quarter" flies in the face of being aggressive. He is flat out afraid to be aggressive until he has no choice. For years I have felt that isn't how the game is played anymore. Do you need a run game? Fuck yes, but running the ball doesn't mean you aren't aggressive. It was just the entire style. Happy with third and long and a throw short of the sticks. Fine, but over and over again? I would love to see the amount of three and outs we have in relation to the rest of the league. That has seemed to improve of late, but my opinion of why they had three and outs was horseshit ultra conservative play calling on first and second down. Oh, and an incredible undisciplined group that got flagged often, putting them behind the sticks.

I hated the fact that I could watch us play and pretty much look at my son and call out the play. If I know that the tight formation we are in means an inside run play, if I know based on the formation, we are going play action, if the formation, down and distance dictates many times to me that I know what the play is...do you honestly think the guys paid to game plan against us don't know?

For the longest time, you could basically look at us break the huddle, look at the down and distance and with relative certainty predict the play. Teams figured us out. And we just absolutely refused to adapt. It seemed that with Waldren that changed, but then it didn't. I really don't understand why. The fact that we were explosive as Hell on offense and started the season 6 and 1, lost a game in Arizona in OT where we gave up 31 in regulation and Wagner and Mayowa had two of the dumbest defensive penalties I have ever seen to screw us, and Pete blamed the offense and Russ, for scoring 31? Pete admitted to the world that he was uncomfortable. Our record since being 6 and 1 after a close loss to AZ in AZ and following that up with a win over the 49ers? 31 and 30, and 0 - 2 in the playoffs. So, 6 and 1 made him uncomfortable, but when he changed the style? It wasn't the style change that hurt us, it was youth? Again, sorry, he made his bed. Wanted to get young, got young, then blamed youth for losing.

Even freaking Jerry DiPoto has admitting the 6 man rotation was idiotic and has even come to his sense regarding DH albeit 4 seasons too late.

I've harped and harped on the shit about him changing shit even though we were winning. But changing the offense after a 6 or 7 and 1 start in 2020, and changing the defense after a 6 and 3 start this year? I just don't get it. It's as if he would rather lose his way than win another way. That's ego. Plain and simple.

He is the best coach we have ever had, but if that is all it takes, Tom Landry would have left when he wanted in Dallas and not gotten fired. Sometimes it is time for a change.

I don't think that's an accurate portrayal of what happened here. He completely changed both the offense and the defense during his time here. He went away from The Bevell/Schotty type zone blocking scheme and brought in a McVey disciple on the offensive side. His teams ran the entire spectrum from 2nd in the League in rushing attempts in 2013 and 2014 to 2nd to the last in rushing attempts in 2023. On the defensive side he completely revamped the whole scheme and switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4 on defense. You may not have been satisfied with the results but he wasn't just sitting there not trying to adapt.

We heard about it before it started...it was going to be a 3-4 with 4-3 principles. And the Waldren run game was atrocious. If THAT was the change he thought made sense, then again, not sure why it took this long to realize he needed to go. Saying you are changing, and repeatedly looking the same is almost worst than just not changing at all. I believe he wanted to change, but when it came down to it? He just couldn't.

Yep it is like the M's changing the title of their Hitting coaches to Offensive Coordinator and Director of Hitting strategy, not joking, and expecting better results. Moving around the deck chairs. His most important mantra was you can't win until the 4th quarter and he took that one to his professional grave.
