So where does this rank on the "I can't believe we won this game" list? Maybe #2 after the NFC Championship Game against the Puckers?

Obviously. Oh wait what if the Ref put on a Seahawks jersey and ran it into the endzone???Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 7:22 pmIf a ref picked up the ball there would have been no clear recovery so the play would end without a conversion.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 7:11 pmSo if a ref had picked up the ball first then what is the call?

Okay perhaps it was a dumb question, but the whole situation seems moot once the whistle was blown.

I tend to agree, but the rule for the occasion says otherwise.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:49 pmOkay perhaps it was a dumb question, but the whole situation seems moot once the whistle was blown.

Yeah there is a huge emphasis to stop playing once you here the whistle blow but this totally contradicts that. So if a D lineman has a QB in the grasp and hears the whistle should he ignore it and take him down. Officials should have recognized it could have been a backwards pass and refrained from blowing their whistles.trharder wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:51 pmI tend to agree, but the rule for the occasion says otherwise.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:49 pmOkay perhaps it was a dumb question, but the whole situation seems moot once the whistle was blown.

NFL officials did not issue a pool report after the game. But former NFL referee and NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay did add context on social media to help explain the ruling.
“When a backward pass is ruled forward and incomplete, replay can reverse if there is a clear recovery in the immediate continuing action,” McAulay posted to X. “The recovering team is awarded the ball at the spot of recovery. Let me make this perfectly clear: whether a whistle is blown or not is completely irrelevant.”

Millen just brought up an interesting take on all the defensive miscommunications last night- Were the 12s a little too loud and the secondary just couldn't hear hear each other ? MacDonald emphasizes communication all the time so it did seem strange to see them getting rocked that hard.

Thanks for digging that up. Do you know if the same applies to fumbles with regard to the whistle? It's odd that none of the players seemed aware of that rule and/or of the possibility that the pass was backwards.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 20, 2025 12:46 amSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:49 pmOkay perhaps it was a dumb question, but the whole situation seems moot once the whistle was blown.NFL officials did not issue a pool report after the game.
