Re: Around the League
This was something we did a lot of, with Russ at QB as well. I always assumed that was so in the Press Conference, if we lost? We could say that we were within one score at the end of the game, and that's all you can ask for. We also could remind everyone if we won that you can't win the game until the 4th quarter. The funny thing is? If we lost that game, it would have been lost before the 4th quarter, due to the deficit we fell behind by. But? Not one single media member every asked about that HUGE flaw in the philosophy!

Exactly. I always thought about all the construction workers, factory workers and coal miners that were bummed they had to go to work again on a Monday morning but all day they could look forward to coming home and watching MNF.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 1:37 amtrharder wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 1:11 amI was looking forward to rooting for Geno to suck, but I won't be able to see it, as ESPN is letting me see the undercard
game on ABC, but won't be letting my cable-cord-cutting ass watch the Raiders and Chargers. I'm pretty butt hurt
about it actually. Watching MNF on free TV should be an American birthright.
having more than one game totally refutes the entire point of what MNF represented in the first place. It was meant to be a single football game on in prime time that the entire nation would watch together. All the hype, the theme song, the entire thing was about a weekly little SB. And it worked, it was fun, so of course they can never just leave something alone but have to get greedy

It would appear that the PC/Geno reunion isn't going anywhere. SEA has it's problems, but I'll take them over the Raiders every day of the week.
I also think the NFL is a mere shadow of its former self. The extra games, the greed, the levels to which it stoops to attract more viewers. It used to be that the fans watched the game because it was enjoyable and they understood it. Now? People who have no clue as to what the game is about. But so long as they spend the money because that's all the NFL cares about.
Even when I look at hockey, Bettman has turned the NHL into a skills competition beer league. Rarely any bodychecks, lots of high sticks, dirty hits, no fighting. Everyone wears a visor. And who wouldn't, with all the stick work.
It's a shame that these sports have become so diluted.

I think most new week one was a mirage. Not to mention I am sure it killed Pete to watch his QB throw it as many times as he is. They have major issues running the ball. I think Jeanty is the real deal, so the fact that he has 30 carries on the year and only 81 yards? I'm left to assume they have a deficiency up front.

The game is about offense and throwing it all over the field. It is basically a glorified 7 on 7 drill. Another reason I think someone like Pete is going to struggle big time. The resurgence of the RB from last year? Might have been short lived. I wonder if the wear and tear on backs just scares coaches? I type that, but then check into the stats and there are actually 15 backs with 30 or more carries. But really? That's only 15 per game. I remember a time when you expected a #1 to always have twenty or more. Right now? Only three with forty or more, and those are the dudes....Jonathan Taylor, Josh Jacobs and Saquon.
Re: Around the League
Got me to thinking how polar opposite Jacobs' and Penny's careers turned out, both drafted in the first round.
Penny - 27th pick in 2018, 1951 yds rushing, 13 rushing TDs
Jacobs - 24th pick in 2019, 6874 yds rushing and counting, 61 rushing TDs
What a difference a year (and player) makes.

Wow. Penny just wasn't ready. That isn't surprising considering he played at San Diego State. But he also, IMO, THOUGHT he was ready. He came into camp out of shape...and they blamed a hand or wrist injury. Yeah, the guy was out of shape because of a hand? You can still run...and the hand injury should have made eating harder!douche wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 8:34 pmGot me to thinking how polar opposite Jacobs' and Penny's careers turned out, both drafted in the first round.

It was a reach...especially when you consider Nick Chubb was right there. I was against taking a back at that spot anyway, but if you are dead set on a back? How do you pass on Chubb?
Re: Around the League
Just proves how hit-and-miss the draft can be.

Meh, did you not believe at the time Chubb was better? I will say this, Sony Michell and the kid that Washington drafted that were also supposed to be can't miss didn't exactly pan out either. So? Point taken. Still...I was always a pretty big Chubb fan. I just wonder if the FO thought that Penny would help in the return game and catching passes more?
Re: Around the League
Could be. Or perhaps JS did want Chubb and PC vetoed it. We'll likely never know.
And Sony Michel won 2 Super Bowls. Sometimes life just isn't fair. It's also doubly interesting that he won a championship with the Pats defeating the Rams, then won another with the Rams.
