To me it looks like arm and hand fighting that happens all the time. If this is interference, then 80% of all defended passes are interference.
Hand fighting has to end when the ball is in the air. I just can't get over the fact that he can't raise one of his arms and has to make a one handed attempt, and somehow, physically impeding his ability to use both hands for a catch ISN'T interference. Hand fighting is fine, and last night the booth official even says that....it's hand fighting UNTIL the time he is attempting to catch the ball. By your definition, the DB could just repeatedly slap the WRs arm down, and because he didn't grab it, it's not a foul. Contact from the DB was making it impossible for the WR to lift his other hand to make a catch. Sorry, I just don't see anyway that's not interference.
The thing is, he didn't slap the arm down, didn't grab it, and didn't hold it. I don't know what else the guy is supposed to do. He's covering him like glue and they're both interlocking arms. When I watch it in slow motion, all I can do is commend the defender for NOT grabbing and NOT holding. It seems to me he did everything right. The receiver should have gotten himself more free if he expected absolutely ZERO contact. Receivers need to grow some balls and outduel the defender (like Nacua did on his almost miracle catch). What has to end is this ticky-tack interference bullshit where the receiver is too pussy to go fight for the ball. If he is getting held, grabbed or slapped (or the defenders head isn't turned around), then fine, throw the flag.
Also rememebr - these are elite athletes - very fast and agile - things are happening fast in real time - and humans (the refs) have to react in real time, often the play is happening in a crowd and with mutual hand fighting. These calls can be hard. I will go to my grave adamant that the non call in the Saints game was arguably the worst non call ever - because NONE of those caveats were a factor - it was a deep ball - one on one - every single eye ball was on those two, and not only did the defender blatantly arrive early and crush the receiver - it was a helmet to helmet hit. You can possibly miss ONE of those, but it is so so so so so unlikely you miss both - just incomprehensible. I am still pissed about it to this day.

The Lambs can never ever ever ever ever complain after that one. Not. Fucking. Ever.

We have a few glass half full posters and a lot of glass half empty posters and then we have SH who is the glass is all moldy and is about to shatter into 1000 pieces. lol
So that explains why when I put Game 7 on pause for 10 minutes while Springer was up I heard what sounded like a plate glass window being shot out by a rocket launcher. :D

We are obviously watching a different play. His arm is in contact with Atwell's arm, the entire time. You can't handfight when the player is trying to make the catch.

There is just no way the defender can be the reason the receiver can't raise his other arm, and it not be a foul. Again, the booth guy, who always agrees with the call on the field because they don't want to create controversy was in agreement.

I even paused it, and you can see Atwell can't raise his arm....the ball is coming down at that time.

The two calls are not comparable, no doubt. But this was one on one, it was a deep ball, and it looked like PI live and even more so when slowed down. The call was missed, end of story. That can be the case and it still not be as big of a deal as the one that screwed the Saints.

That said? The Saints went to OT, and Brees threw a pick on their first possession. I still think it's ridiculous that most people say the Seahawk fans have to stop bitching about XL, because they had chances to win the game, but the opposite isn't true for the bitchy whiney Saint fans. If Brees marches them down the field and scores a TD in OT? Game over.

All this picture shows is the defender's arm above of the arm of the WR. It doesn't show him grabbing, holding or anything like that. If you watch it frame by frame in MOTION it's even less of a 'grab' or a 'hold'. If Atwell is too pussy to raise his arm from that, then even more of a reason not to give him a call. I can guarantee you 100% that Pacua catches the exact same pass, because he would have got his other arm there no matter what ticky-tack contact was going on prior. The defender was there and on him like glue. Give him some credit. I'm so sick of WR being pussies these days. If you want to get open, then GET OPEN and quit your whining. Atwell "OH NO...he was TOUCHING MY ARM......I'm done, I can't catch it now"....smh.

Jesus. OK, you are right. The arm above his arm isn't limiting his ability. So again, all he has to do is slap, since that's not a grab.

He can not raise his arm. Do you know how many times I've watched PI calls on plays were guys make one handed catches, for this exact reason? It doesn't have to be a grab, it has to be contact that impedes the ability to make the catch. I'd say removing the ability to raise one of his arms would be just that. Grabbing, locking arms, hand fighting....non of that can happen right before the catch like that.

Are you seriously going to tell me that the only time you have seen PI flags thrown are when the defender grabs the receiver?

I've seen thousands of ticky-tack interference calls. I hate all of them. WR are pussies, and have been since the 1980s. Give me a Lynn Swann who would catch anything no matter what any defender was doing to him. Give me Steve Largent who ran such beautiful routes and was so open, he never have a chance to be interfered with and caught anything when he was being challenged.

With regards to your question about 'slapping'.....yes, that would be interference. He never slapped him.

I believe grabbing the receiver is a holding call - not PI. Interfering with EITHER player's ability to make a play on the ball is PI. Not sure what the debate here is - it's clearly pass interference - not the most agregious ever - but still a foul - except when the Lambs are on defense - then it's just a 'good non call"

Hating the rule doesn't change the rule. That's the problem. If they throw the flag there no one has one single issue. It was a penalty. They missed it. Swan and Largent? Dude....the game is not played or called the same way. That was a penalty. You hate the rule, so do a lot of people. Doesn't change what the rule is.

The RULE says holding, grabbing or slapping. He did none of those. He never once HELD him, he never once GRABBED him, and he never once SLAPPED him. He was guilty of having his arm interlocked over the WRs arm. If you want to call it interference, fine.....It just isn't this 100% clear cut interference you claim it is. Obviously if it was, one of the officials would have called it immediately. I for one am always happy when the officials let the players play if there's nothing egregious and this was one of those. It certainly wasn't a blatant hold, grab or slap.
