I think just about every Seahawk fan I know would prioritize OL over QB on this team, if they had to chose one.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 6:03 pmCorbin smith lays it out. Seems to agree with Sibelius. It should be about addressing the OC and offensive line before dealing with a new QB

Re: Next Franchise QB
That's not on the OC, I can almost promise you that. Just like Pete Carroll, MacDonald is a Defensive Coach...and he knows the stress up-tempo by his offense puts on his defense. I would question anyone that thinks its the OC that wants his team to run fewer plays.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 6:08 pmSeems like grubb gets criticized for not going up tempo enough

Re: Next Franchise QB
The point is Grubb is fifth in the league going no huddle, that's up tempo isn't it?
Terms of an issue with MM, he's a defensive minded coach out of the Harbaugh mold. He would expected to be run oriented which Grubb seems to avoid

Other than personally having a bias in favor of QBs that run a lot because I feel it fucks with defenses -Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 5:08 pmThen give him a contract for more than one year.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 12:38 pmForgot about Fields, see where he's rated the number one QB going into free agency. He's going to be looking for more than a one year contract, that's going to be what drives the competition
I see nothing wrong with a 3-year contract for $12-13M a year... no guarantee in year 3.
He's 25. 1 year old than 2x QB's drafted in the 1st round last year. Fill out the roster w. the saved cash.
Fields came on my radar because I randomly talked to a Steelers fan at a sports bar on Orcas Island in October, before Russ took over.
They were sitting close to my wife and I and he was obviously a Steelers fan and watching the Fields led Steelers.
I asked him as a smart ass Steelers hater - "So, is Fields your QB of the future"? You could tell he was being sincere when he answered,
"I hope so". Another person asked him "Is Russ playing today" and you could tell the Steelers fan was puzzled by why he even asked.
Now that really doesn't mean shit, especially when Tomlin went right to Russ, despite Fields having a winning record, but still, that
Steelers fan had watched a lot more Justin Fields snaps than I had. The Bears are such a shitshow you can probably give Fields some
grace for his time there...

This guy seems to think signing Fields wouldn't be that hard to sign

Re: Next Franchise QB
If JS had just drafted Creed Humphrey three years ago they would have the luxury now of being able to look at drafting a QB early. With center a major position of need he passed on a stud at that position in order to draft an undersized mediocre WR. I'm sure Pat Mahomes is glad he did that, probably sending JS a Christmas greeting every year since.

Re: Next Franchise QB
I just don't get the Fields love. Not from watching him this year, or checking out the game logs.
He started 7 games this year.
3 times he threw for fewer than 150 yards. Once as low as 117.
In those three games he rushed for 35, 16 and 7 yards. What a huge offensive contribution! If Geno accounted for 180, 147 and 124 yards in nearly half his starts? This place would have imploded.
He never ran for more than 35.
Threw for over 300 just once, the lost, and that was also the only time he threw for over 250.
He took 16 sacks in those seven games. Behind a pretty good O Line. Oh, and he also fumbled six times.
And in the last two games he started before his benching?
29 for 51, 57%, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 276 yards passing and 51 yards rushing. That's a per game average of 14.5 for 25.5, 138 yards,1 TD and 25.5 yards rushing. Geno would have been driven out of town by the 12s and executed for that.
The dude is not a good QB, and would be terrible here.

Re: Next Franchise QB
If you put a good enough team around a QB just about anyone can look Good. Brock Purdy looked great as a rookie with that juggernaut around him. fast forward a couple of years and there are some players lost to FA and some injuries and he looks average at best. Matthew Stafford couldn't do jack in Detroit stick him on a stacked Rams team and He looks like the greatest QB ever. The Rams then sign him to a mega extension and lose other guys due to the salary cap and he comes right back down to earth again. Look at Sam Darnold. He was basically written off but put him on a stacked team like the Vikings and he looks great.
My personal opinion is that paying big money to a QB is not the best route to winning the Superbowl. Since the turn of the century, Mahomes is the only QB that managed to win a Superbowl while being paid on a mega deal. Brady won 3 on his rookie deal and then famously played way below market value in subsequent superbowl years. Roethlesburger won two on his rookie deal and never won again. Peyton Manning won one on his rookie deal and didn't win again until he went to the Broncos at the end of his career for less than top tier money. Eli Manning won his two superbowls on his rookie deal and never won again. Drew Brees Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson all won a superbowls on their rookie deals and never won again. Meanwhile we have guys like Matthew Stafford, Nick Foles, Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer all winning superbowls making well under elite QB money.
Geno Smith is due to take up 38.5 Million in cap space next season. That is just insane in my opinion. I think they would be better off using that money to fix the O-line and upgrade in other areas of weakness. I honestly think that they could build the roster to the point where it almost doesn't matter who the QB is. Then you can go out and either draft someone like they did with Wilson or sign a capable QB that has been written off because they were in a bad situation.

Re: Next Franchise QB
This. People are also failing to recognize the college game is NOT grooming QB's anymore. The days of the Brady are gone - no one has that skill set - and there is no incentive for coachedsto groom QB's in college because of NIL and the transfer portal. The two best QB's in college the last two years were both at Wazzu - and they were one and done. "scrambling" has replaced "read and sit in the pocket" in college - and it is absolutely what is happening in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence may be the last pure pocket passer I can think of coming out. The college game absolutely dictates what happens in the NFL - anyone paying attention can see the results in the NFL. It's going to get worse - the athletes are better, but between the ears there is not much happening anymore. "Pay me now, follow me on insta, like and subscribe" is all it is about anymore. Look how many incredibly BAD BAD BAD games just from this year alone. The NFL is turning into the WNBA of the NFL - almost a parody of itself - sans 4-5 teams. I honestly don't know how this is sustainable. The product has become absolute garbage - losing doesn't make the games garbage - awful play and staggering stupidity do - there is a BIG difference. You can look good while losing (and also bad)- but my God Seattle looks absolutely embarrassing WINNING.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 7:55 pmIf you put a good enough team around a QB just about anyone can look Good. COllege coaches are in 'win now' mode for job security - with your QB likely leaving for a better deal after one season - there is NO value in grooming them to learn the pocket game - just 'win now' baby is the new mantra.
