And when Penny was healthy (which unfortunately was rare) he was explosive. 5.6 yards per carry in his career and that five-game stretch where in four of the games he went for 137, 135, 170 and 190 yards. Hopefully Price is just as good and can stay on the field.

Sounds like AI loves Price.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 3:45 pmI asked google for a Penny Price comp...
A lot gets made of Price being "fresh", I don't know. It's a pretty unusual situation isn't it? Is there data on it? I don't see the issue as being about the relative schedules of the two schools as much as what to make of the amount of work Penny put in relative to Price. Did that lead to his difficulty staying healthy?Playing Style & Physical Profile
Speed and Size: Penny was known for a combination of high-end speed and size (4.46 forty at 220 lbs). Price, at around 5-foot-11 and 203 pounds at the combine, is considered a smaller, slightly slower back than Penny was, although he intended to play at a higher weight (210 lbs) in Seattle.
Running Style: Price is praised for his instant acceleration, vision, and "rare feel for defenders" with a strong ability to make defenders miss, aiming to add "home run" speed to the Seattle offense.
Injury History: Price ruptured his Achilles in 2022, raising questions about long-term durability, whereas Penny’s NFL career was often limited by various injuries.
Immediate Impact
Role: Price is expected to contribute immediately to replace the lost production from Kenneth Walker III, functioning as a potential two-down grinder early in his career, similar to the immediate impact the Seahawks hoped for from Penny.
Longevity: Because of his low usage (280 carries) in college, scouts believe Price’s legs are "much fresher" than other incoming backs, potentially offering better longevity than Penny, who struggled to stay healthy.
In summary, while Price shares the high-draft status of Penny, he comes to Seattle as a much less utilized—but more "instantaneous" and "fresh"—back compared to the heavy workload Penny handled in college.
Price is expected to put on weight?

Because Penny gained his yards vs slower less talented defenses. Can't believe I have to explain this.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 3:58 pmSure, I just don't understand the comp. They had different sorts of careers. I don't see what the schedules have to do with it

Well, didn't he have slower less talented teammates blocking for him etc. In the open field it probably made the biggest difference the type of athletes trying go tackle him and that would explain his superior yard per carry average.

Who cares, what's important is the amount of carries not his more or less yardage . Price is going to be Penny without the mileage. I don't see Price playing at a bigger school having anything to do with it. Penny broke down as a professional player, he couldn't stay on the field. It wasn't about being exposed as a bad player because he went to a small school. Price on the other hand, has had a little actual use in college. What there was can be extrapolated indicating a good RB. He doesn't have the counting numbers of a guy like Penny. I see the comparison as whether they have a better chance of Price holding up. It's like innings on a pitcher. I can't recall it being applied to a football player.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 5:02 pmBecause Penny gained his yards vs slower less talented defenses. Penny wasn't drafted based on his counting numbers. Fans will look at them. Scouts look at the physical characteristics of the player. They took Zabel in the first round because of his physical characteristics, not because he could hammer guys from small schools

He had the highest percentage of missed tackles created of any back in that draft. Easier to do for him than Barkley, no? That was one of the things I remember being pointed out as why they took him. Creating missed tackles against the teams he played? Sure, worth mentioning, but it didn't make him better than Chubb.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 5:16 pmWell, didn't he have slower less talented teammates blocking for him etc. In the open field it probably made the biggest difference the type of athletes trying go tackle him and that would explain his superior yard per carry average.

If you don't have time to listen to the entire thing, start at the 5:55 mark when Brock asks him why he stayed at Notre Dame instead of bolting back near his hometown to Texas. Especially his comments about his mother. So awesome.

To me he looks a lot like Shaun Alexander with regard to his running style. Let's hope that works with their blocking scheme. I think the one- cut no hesitation style could work better than the more hesitant read and react style of Walker, but the blocking has to do their jobs.
