And for those that consider Witherspoon overrated you could probably make an argument that he was the MVP.

From the Barnwell article, and it's pure gold:
"Just when Maye thought he had the answers, Seattle coach Mike Macdonald changed the questions. The Seahawks brought a devastating wrinkle into their defensive game plan. And while Seattle probably would have been good enough to win the game without it, the unexpected look saved for the biggest game of the year tormented the Patriots, producing chaotic moments for New England's offense before topping things off with a defensive touchdown.
A more experienced quarterback or one with better protection might have had the wherewithal and time to adapt quickly. Maye did not, and the Patriots were flummoxed by something the Seahawks hadn't shown on tape in nearly two months."
Now that's real coaching.

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/sea ... subscriberI was one of the media members voting for the MVP award, and boy was that a tough choice with the way the Seahawks truly exemplified a team in beating the Patriots 29-13 on Sunday.
I spent the fourth quarter debating the merits of Kenneth Walker III, Derick Hall, Byron Murphy II and Devon Witherspoon.
I ultimately sided with Witherspoon because I thought he made three of the more pivotal plays of the game — his blitz on a third down that forced a hurried Drake Maye incompletion that ended the Pats’ first series, his sack on third-and-15 that ended the Pats’ second series and his rush that forced Maye into the pass that Uchenna Nwosu returned for an interception.
The first two plays set a tone as coach Mike Macdonald decided to change things up and blitz earlier in the game than the Seahawks usually do, trying to make Maye as uncomfortable as possible and sending a message to the Pats that the Seahawks might not conform to their usual tendencies.
The last play basically ended the game.
I had a feeling Walker was going to lose it on the cheap holding call on Sundell.

Reminds me of Don James, when they went to a bowl game, had a couple weeks to prepare, you knew James would have them ready. I was totally confident MM have them readydouche wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 4:32 pmFrom the Barnwell article, and it's pure gold:

Thought that was interesting, fun team, guess Darnold picked it up from Purdy
ON SATURDAY NIGHTS before each game, Darnold, Seattle backup quarterback Drew Lock and QB3 Jalen Milroe get together at a table in the team hotel ballroom about an hour before the team dinner opens. The three quarterbacks review each play on the call sheet together, especially the ones that aren't printed on the wristband.
"I'll call it out to him," Lock said. "He'll call it back to me, and we'll talk through all of our cans and alerts. I would vouch for any quarterback to do it."
The group Saturday night study session is new to Lock. Before this season with Darnold, Lock used to study on his own at home in the afternoon before reporting to the team hotel.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp comes an hour early too, and brings the quarterbacks each an order of pho, the Vietnamese soup dish. Kupp is responsible for finding the pho spot for each road trip, and the group ranks and reviews Kupp's choices like a trio of food critics after they've finished reviewing the call sheet.
"We get another dinner together," Lock said. "It's also good because a lot of guys get there early and they see you working, putting a little extra time in."

To a man last night they talked about their teammates being their brothers, they talked about creating chemistry. These are Professional athletes....I told my wife that it makes me hope that my players are watching this. I'm sure they weren't, but I feel like what I tell them about good teammates and chemistry and comradery goes in one ear and out the other. The Super Bowl Champs and their coaching staff talk about it. Hell, I was at a Coaching Convention not that long ago and many sessions focused on it. Northwestern, Oregon and Cal State Fullerton coaches all had very interesting training sessions on it. Culture is intentional. This Hawks team got it.

By the way, the actual final score of the game was 36-13 and Walker's stat line was 28 carries for 184 yards and a touchdown.
Re: Super Bowl game thread
Upon hindsight, I bet Steve Bisciotti was wishing he had fired Harbaugh two years ago and elevated Macdonald to HC.

Oh man, you should see what the fans say. Back when they let him go to the Seahawks they were complaining about it. It was like Pete, the suggestion then was to kick Harbaugh upstairs. And then he gets fired. The only thing worse has to be titans fans lol.
