Official 2020 NFL Draft thread
Re: Official 2020 NFL Draft thread
Are there any DK type miracles that can save this draft for us tonight?
How ironic that I am pissed that we did NOT trade down in the first round.

And that's why I hate this pick. Speed is good. Weight good but that height. Griffin all over again. Kittle is 6'4" 250 How in the F is Brooks gonna cover that guy and you want to put him at Will? Bad pick.

this is probably what he was talking aboutD-train wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 1:09 pmI don't even see how these guys believe their own bullshit. So they tried to trade down but then when they couldn't they were "pleasantly surprised" when the 60th ranked prospect was available at 27. STFU
“He could play inside or outside for us,” Carroll said. “We are going to give this guy a chance and see where he can fit in.”
And while the Seahawks ended up not trading their pick, it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

Schneider said he had a trade lined up that “fell through at the last minute” to move down and that “bang, he (Brooks) was still there. So it worked out great.”
Among the teams Schneider said he was talking to was the Packers, who instead moved up to 26 right in front of Seattle to take quarterback Jordan Love.
Schneider said Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst told him “sorry we got a better deal.” Said Schneider: “It happens.”
Schneider said Brooks was “the best player on the board” when the trade to move down fell through and “we were really excited” to get him.
While Seattle’s pick of linebacker Jordyn Brooks in the first round Thursday will continue to be analyzed, dissected and otherwise evaluated from now until he proves his worth on the field one way or the other, there was no morning-after remorse among the Seahawks.
If anything, seeing that Baltimore took a linebacker with the pick after theirs may have only made Seattle feel that they potentially caught a break when a trade with the Packers fell through.
Word in league circles Friday is that had the Seahawks not taken Brooks at 27, then the Ravens would have at 28.

CBS thinks the Ravens got the best LB.
27. Seahawks, LB Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech
Grade: C+. I like Brooks. The issue is this is a pick for the future for a team that should be picking to win right now. They have other issues like pass rusher. Yetur Gross-Matos was sitting there, I would have taken him.
28. Ravens, LB Patrick Queen, LSU
Grade: B. I love this pick. I think Queen is going to be a star in this defense. I think this kid's range is outstanding. He can go sideline to sideline.

Boy those Ravens must be despondent that the Hawks took Brooks instead of Queen:
27. Seattle Seahawks: Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech
Just about every Seahawks fan was certain Seattle would trade down and out of the first round. It’s a staple of general manager John Schneider. Then Schneider didn’t and took a player most thought would be there in the second round. Other than trading down, going against the grain is Schneider’s specialty. That’s why prematurely grading Seattle’s picks are the hardest of any team. It doesn’t help that Seahawks fans keep receipts, either.
At any rate, Brooks gives the Seahawks a hard-hitting linebacker with excellent football IQ. Brooks is arguably the best tackling linebacker in the draft, and made a ton of plays in 2019, when he had 20 tackles for loss.
Grade: C
28. Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Queen, LB, LSU
This was the pick the Ravens needed to make. He is a sideline-to-sideline linebacker with a high motor. Queen can patrol the middle of the field for the Ravens and make a ton of plays. His comparison for me was C.J. Mosley. After building out their defensive line this offseason, Queen is a great fit for the Ravens, and he was the best player available.
Grade: A+

27. Seattle Seahawks: Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech
Grade: D
The Seahawks needed edge rushing help early. Offensive line and depth at both wide receiver and running back were lesser priorities, but definitely bigger needs than a linebacker with some coverage limitations to put next to veteran stalwarts Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. Brooks (6-0, 240 pounds) has a good blend of athleticism and physicality for the second level, but he must improve rapidly to be trusted vs. the short-to-intermediate passing game. This is another head-scratching first rounder to follow Seattle’s picks of Rashaad Penny and L.J. Collier.

Seattle Seahawks: Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech - C Grade
What an upset! The Seahawks didn't trade down from their first-round pick for the first time in nine years! Jordyn Brooks is someone the Seahawks could've obtained by trading down a bit, but not too far, as we know that a team was considering him early in the second round. However, the Seahawks really needed to bolster both sides of the trenches. Linebacker is not an immediate need, so I'm not in love with this pick. I definitely don't hate it, however.
Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Queen, LB, LSU - A+ Grade
It must be very amusing to work for the Ravens' front office. Year after year, they watch dumb teams ahead of them do stupid things in the draft, allowing them to scoop up great talents. Apparently, 2020 is no different. Bad picks were made ahead of the Ravens once more, opening up this selection. Patrick Queen easily could've been chosen in the late teens, but Baltimore is somehow getting him at No. 28 overall as a replacement for C.J. Mosley.

I call Bullshit on the Ravens taking Brooks over Queen. Bullshit.
