Thanks, Addict. That was the info I was getting but haven't delved into it in depth. And yes, all we've done is replace guys from last year. We need another two DT's if Wood doesn't come back. Ika would be my choice at 20 even if we take Carter at #5. QB can wait.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 4:18 pmFAs are usually more expensive than FAs and are under contract for longer. Draftees get 4 years, first rounders get 4 plus an option for year 5. Cheaper free agents might cost less than top 10 rookies, though. The key thing with this year is the Seahawks picked up two free agents, but dropped three veterans, plus Mone is probably done with his injury, so we're still down 2 no matter how you slice it. So they didn't add bodies, they upgraded a couple spots and still need to fill a couple others.ddraig wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 3:53 pmTrue that we picked up a couple of D-Linemen as FA's. And one or two of our own we let go may come back. But I have a question for those more into the draft than I: Aren't FA's typically more expensive than draftees? And you have the draftee for a few years longer?
They currently have no cap room for free agents. To do anything, they'd have to make some moves - there are some prime restructure candidates, though.
Tuli is an edge and not big enough to play inside. I really don't see why they'd need to add another edge with Taylor, Mafe, Nwosu and Jones (Jones listed as DT, but plays best in a 3 or 5 tech). Ika is projected 2nd round, and would be a likely fit as that plug-the-middle guy. There are 2 or 3 decent looking DTs that should be around in the 2nd round, but the problem is there are ONLY 2 or 3 decent looking DTs, so they may or may not be there. If the Seahawks don't go Carter, I expect them to look at Bresee, Ika, or Mazi Smith. Gervon Dexter would be a nice pickup, and lot of people have us taking Kancey, but they're too small to fill the real need we have - unless you have them play behind Jones. Lots of good players, but not all D-linemen are the same... 3-4 defenses typically need a big guy in the middle.ddraig wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 3:53 pmNot saying Carter is the answer. Couldn't Siaki Ika of Baylor or Tuli Tuipulotu of USC fit the bill in the late first or second rounds? Get one of them with the 20th pick and I wouldn't mind going after a QB at 5. Both are run stuffers and can break double team blocks. Carter isn't the only DT out there worth a look. One or both may be available at 20. or 37.
Seahawks trading up to #3?!!

Great piece by Rang on the QBs. Says being able to use AR in the Wildcat in year one could justify taking him at 5.

Reports were IF Mahomes had dropped thar Seattle was going to take him. When he got scooped up they moved on. You guys need to do you're homework on this stuff. C'mon DT. I know we're all clownin' here, but it wasn't exactly a secret.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 3:41 pmMahomes went 10th and we took McDowell at 35. Re: Seahawks trading up to #3?!!
Schneider wanted to trade with the Browns for their pick to get Allen. No holes about it. Just like you tried shooting holes about moving up to #3, and now its all over the news! John Schneider has been in on both Allen and Mahomes and the fact that he has let's me sleep at night knowing that we have a good evaluator of QB's. He also found a Dumpster dive in the 3rd round at pick 75. He was adamant about taking Russell in the 2nd, but Pete swayed him to take Wagner in the 2nd. Schneider then told Pete, he better be there in the 3rd. When they took Wilson at 75, the phone rang. It was Andy Reid with the Philly's. He cursed them out and told them that's who they were taking at 76!D-train wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 3:48 pmJets could have taken Mahomes in 2017 and Josh Allen in 2018 and they took Adams and Darnold.![]()
Allen went 7th in 2018 and we took Penny 27th. So JS wanted to take Allen but settled for Penny after not being able to trade up 20 spots with RW in his absolute prime? Sorry that theory has some serious holes.![]()
Do you're research boys. It'll help you come draft day.

I remember Wilson being upset with the visit, I was questioning them actually trying to get either of them

Re: Seahawks trading up to #3?!!
I never knew that. I remember right before the draft, there was a report that Chris Mortenson told Russell Wilson he was gonna be a Seahawk when it was all said and done.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 11:44 pmI remember Wilson being upset with the visit, I was questioning them actually trying to get either of them
I got to meet him, Ron Jaworski, and John Clayton at my hotel bar once, and asked if Chris, "Did you really say that to Russell?" He said, "there was never a doubt."

Re: Seahawks trading up to #3?!!
I'm getting confused, thought it was reported before, this is from when he was traded
https://clutchpoints.com/seahawks-news- ... on-furious. Apparently, the Seahawks drew the ire of Wilson long before he was actually traded. It may have started some five years ago when the team’s general manager scouted Patrick Mahomes ahead of the draft:
In the spring of 2017, Seahawks general manager John Schneider was a conspicuous attendant at Patrick Mahomes’ pro day. The GM had become so enamored with the Texas Tech quarterback that Seattle would have taken him had he been available late in the first round, multiple team sources said.
Obviously, the prospect of replacing him with a young and then-untested quarterback did not sit well with Wilson. As if that wasn’t enough, Schneider went through the exact same process the following year. This time around, he had his eye on Josh Allen:
A year after eyeing Mahomes, Schneider attended Josh Allen’s Wyoming pro day, a repeat move that raised eyebrows among observers and ruffled feathers inside Wilson’s camp.
Re: Seahawks trading up to #3?!!
Not totally a rhetorical question, but when was the last time the Hawks traded up in the first round?
